Our kindergarten students have been busy!
A recent trip to Covert Farms connected to our year long inquiry unit on seasons, conservation, and preservation. We harvested sunflower seeds and sorted petals, we then used our petals and leaves to colour during Fire Friday. Next, we’ll roast the seeds and explore how we can use the whole plant and reduce waste.

Last week, in our Fire Friday program, students explored a variety of inquiry stations connected to Truth and Reconciliation. Activities included examining historical food policies, cooking traditional foods,participating in an interactive language activity focused on Truth and Reconciliation and gardening for sustainable futures. It was a meaningful day of learning, connection, and hands-on experiences.

Our intermediate class used their research, thinking and communication skills to analyze the 94 Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action. They chose one that resonated with them personally and shared the reason that it was important to them. They designed “Orange Shirts” to reflect their Call to Action. We are proud of their confidence and courage to share their art and thoughts at today’s Truth and Reconciliation Ceremony.

This year, SPC hosted our annual ntytyix camp at sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ (Little Falls) Park, where students engaged in two days of meaningful, experiential learning. Students had the opportunity to participate in fishing, salmon processing, preparing cooked salmon sushi rolls, creating salmon-inspired art, and engaging in physical activities.
Through these experiences, students developed their communication, social, self-management, and thinking skills while strengthening their connection to community, culture and the land. We had an excellent time learning together and we look forward to ntytyix camp next year.

In August, our staff participated in five days of professional development, including a special day dedicated to cultural learning, community building, and connection. Staff had the opportunity to choose between making rattles and drums or sewing ribbon skirts.
Together, our staff created fifteen rattles and drums to support our school programs, while several teachers also sewed beautiful ribbon skirts to wear during our school programs.

limləmt to our Language & Culture team, our Principal and our Education Director for guiding us on this journey. Beyond the skills and knowledge gained, this day provided a meaningful opportunity to spend time together, build relationships, and strengthen our sense of community.
