We went full explorer mode at Outward Bound with our guides Reed and Ryan.
Armed with nothing but a compass, a map, and some serious determination, we set out to prove that people actually survived before Google Maps and Waze on smartphones.
Our mission? A scavenger hunt through Evergreen Brick Works Park. There were clues to solve, trails to conquer, and plenty of moments where the map definitely looked upside down.
But after following bearings, reading landmarks, and putting our teamwork to the test, we made it to the top—and the reward was worth every step. A stunning panoramic view of the Toronto skyline.
No apps. No GPS. No “recalculating route.” Just real-world problem solving, adventure, and the kind of learning that sticks long after the day is over.
Future Amazing Race contestants? We think so.
Thank you, Reed and Ryan, for teaching us that when all else fails, turning the map right-side up is usually a good place to start.

Amani School
Amani School is a learner-centered, experiential school in Toronto dedicated to empowering young minds from grades 1 – 6
Ever wondered what your lunch is really doing after you swallow it? 🥪➡️😮
Our learner explored the digestive system and brought it to life with a fully working model that shows food’s journey from mouth to… well, let’s just say the grand finale.
Along the way, he learned the technical terms and functions of each organ: how the esophagus transports food, how the stomach breaks it down, how the small intestine absorbs nutrients, and how the large intestine handles what’s left behind.
From mechanical breakdown to chemical digestion, each stage was carefully demonstrated so we could actually see what’s usually happening behind the scenes in our bodies.
At Amani, science isn’t just memorized, it’s built, understood, and sometimes a little messy… just like the digestive system doing its job behind the scenes.
Have you ever been digging a hole and wondered, “What would happen if I just... kept going?”
Our learner set out to answer exactly that question by exploring Earth’s layers, from the topsoil beneath our feet all the way down to the scorching inner core.
Instead of a textbook diagram, he built the planet using layers of taco ingredients, turning geology into a snack-sized science lesson. With every layer added, he uncovered what lies deeper beneath the surface and why humans can’t actually dig all the way to the center of the Earth.
Turns out, the deeper you dig, the hotter the questions get.
What if energy had a personality… and just refused to stay in one form?
Our learner explored energy transformations by building hands-on prototypes that show how energy moves, shifts, and changes in real time.
One moment it’s motion, the next it’s light, sound, or heat, never sitting still for too long.
Through building and testing each model, the science stopped being abstract and started becoming something you can actually see working in front of you.
Because once you start building with energy, you realize—it’s basically always up to something.
Earth really said, “Why be one thing when I can be everything?”
A hill here. A valley there. Toss in a stream, a cliff, and some rocky terrain for dramatic effect.
After noticing how quickly the landscape changes on a simple trail walk, our learner decided to investigate what was actually going on beneath all that scenery.
Through research and a hands-on diorama, he explored how powerful natural forces like tectonic plates, wind, and water have been busy reshaping our planet for millions of years.
Turns out, nature isn’t just showing off. Every landform has a story and the Earth has been writing them for a very long time.
Forecast: 100% chance of curiosity.
Our learner stepped into the role of meteorologist and explored the fascinating world of weather and climate.
Through research, hands-on experiments, and a creative presentation, they discovered how scientists measure temperature, wind, rainfall, and more to better understand our planet.
At Amani, learning isn’t just about knowing the forecast, it’s about asking questions, testing ideas, and sharing discoveries with confidence.
At Amani, we love activities that look simple on the surface but are doing some heavy lifting behind the scenes.
This collaborative coloring puzzle helps learners strengthen visual-spatial reasoning, the brain’s ability to recognize patterns, understand how parts connect to a whole, and think beyond what is immediately visible. Each learner focuses on a single piece, trusting that it will eventually connect with everyone else’s.
It’s a reminder that learning isn’t always about finding the answer. Sometimes it’s about seeing connections, noticing patterns, and discovering how individual contributions come together to create something bigger than ourselves.
Our learners had the opportunity to experience “Moments of Inner Echoes” at the Four Seasons Centre — a breathtaking celebration of Korean dance, music, storytelling, and culture.
Through performances that blended tradition with contemporary expression, learners explored themes of emotion, love, tension, transformation, and joy. From the powerful rhythms of Taepyeongmu to the vibrant fusion of Sogo and K-pop, the experience immersed learners in the beauty of Korean aesthetics and artistic storytelling.
A special shoutout to Ms. Frangely for the incredible VIP treatment and for making the experience so welcoming and memorable for our learners. Your kindness and hospitality made the day even more meaningful.
At Amani, we believe learning extends far beyond the classroom. Experiences like these invite learners to connect with global cultures, witness the arts in motion, and deepen their understanding of expression, identity, and human emotion through real-world encounters.
The Jenga balancing challenge that’s been taking over social media made its way to us.
At first, it felt impossible — blocks kept falling, structures kept collapsing, and every attempt ended in failure.
But the learners didn’t stop.
They adjusted, rebuilt, tested new ideas, and tried again… and again.
And then it happened! Everything aligned, and the entire structure was balanced on just ONE piece.
A moment that showed something powerful: success doesn’t come from the first try… it comes from not stopping after the first fail.
