🌲 'Cedar Weaving - Virtual Adult Nature Workshop with the Ecology Centre' (May 17 at 7pm) - Make a cedar bark mat! Join Jessica Silvey, a Coast Salish weaver, to make your own cedar bark mat using plait and twine weaves. This is a virtual beginner's workshop and the materials are included in the $10 cost. 🥕 'Gardening for the Animals - Kids Online Gardening Workshop' (May 26 at 10am) - Learn how to grow gardens that appeal to birds, bees, and other animals. How can you attract and observe these animals in your garden? This virtual workshop is suitable for families with kids ages 5+. 🌱 'Drawing with Plants - Online Course' (May 27 - Jun 17 at 4:30pm) - In this online 4-week course with Margaret Joba-Woodruff, you will develop foundation skills of life drawing using plant life as a subject. Using their favourite houseplant or outdoor plants, students will practice translating perception onto paper while also exploring abstraction and perceptions other than sight. Each class will focus on different materials such as graphite & ink, and techniques including line, cross hatching, perspective, gesture, and more. Suitable for youth & adults. Dear Mom and Dad, Please Stick With Me The things I do that you think are "crazy" are just me being a teen and going through normal stuff. Here are 7 things I want you to know.

Throughout my elementary, middle school, and high school years, I was often considered a bad kid.

When I wanted to apply myself in the classroom and try my hardest, I could get exceptionality high grades.

But I just didn't want to.

I was so unmotivated by school when I was a kid because I didn't see the point in classes that had no relevance to what I wanted to do in my future career as a creative professional or a businessman.

So yes, I was the kid who ALWAYS asked my teacher, "What's the relevance of all this information and how can we apply it to the real world?"

And it wasn't a hostile question either. I just wanted to know a lesson plan's GREATER PURPOSE and how I could apply information I learned from a lesson plan in the real world.

What confused me so much throughout school was the way educators and counselors often made me and other kids feel like our self-worth was tied to academic performance.

We were made to feel like Bad Grades = Bad Kids = Bad People.

And it gets even worse for kids who might have learning disabilities but haven't been diagnosed yet.

They might have honest, REAL questions that need to be answered, but because they're seen as "disruptive to the lesson plan" they're automatically labeled as a bad student.

No care is given to the validity of their concerns. It's the student's word vs the teacher's. And the student will always be made to feel like their concerns are smaller than they really are.
