Tonight our dojo held our first bonenkai. Tonight we explored the different weapons used on the battlefield and experimented with responding to attacks from a weapon with greater range. We ended the evening with dinner to celebrate the end of the year.

Class 1 of session 1 of Japanese Swordsmanship 101 in the books. We were very excited to hold our first class, with our first new students at the new dojo.

The focus of Japanese Swordsmanship 101 is on fundamentals including, the different practice sword types and their uses, basics of grip, footwork, and cutting...culminating with some successful 'gasshi uchi'.
