English is quite nasal and spread by nature, so spreading is very tempting when pronouncing English in songs. We have to understand that we can maintain a vertical opening when pronouncing - especially on closed vowels!

A variation of the last video - My favourite method for eliminating over-spreading in singing. Gently pressing and guiding the right direction with your fingers on your face - this will condition your facial muscles to move in the correct direction over time. Spreading causes our soft palate and back of throat to close, which in turn causes too much nasality in the vocal tone.

More on the psychology and body awareness involved with the practice of singing. Do you know that we actually fight many natural biological instincts in order to sing optimally? Here's one of many great examples of that!

A DECISIVE breath to help ground you and support your voice immediately before going on stage. Great to do before a presentation, interview, performance, etc.
A Wonderful Exercise for singers, musicians, presenters, and for anyone dealing with anxiety!

In the thick of performance we often forget that the mind is SUCH a powerful force. We are not slaves to our automatic thoughts, doubts, and stress, that our nerves create. We CAN and SHOULD work on reframing unhelpful mental energies, both for ourselves and our audience. BOTH will benefit and be more fulfilled by the performance.

Reframing our stage fright involves understanding our egos. Nerves are often worse when we are too involved with how we perceive the audience is seeing us. If we can make it about our message that we are supposed to deliver to the audience - make it about the words, rather than about us - then we can be better performers rising beyond any nervous feelings.
