Happy New Year, families! 📚✨
I hope everyone had a cozy, restful break.

Over the holidays, reading has been a big hit in our house. My oldest has been very into Owl Diaries, and my youngest has been happily reading her way through the Super Turbo Graphic Novels.

Have you done any reading over the break? What books have been on repeat at your house? 😊

Is your little one ready to start with pre-reading skills? Not sure where to start?
Here are some tips to get started and keep it fun.

📚✨ Got a kiddo who’s just not into reading? You’re not alone!
One of the biggest keys to motivating reluctant readers is connecting books to something they already LOVE. ❤️

Sometimes adults scoff at titles like Captain Underpants or other silly, goofy books… but guess what? If they make kids laugh and want to pick up a book — that’s a win!

My own daughter struggled to find a reason to learn to read. She wasn’t into fairytales or your average stories. Discovering National Geographic Kids animal books at her reading level was a game changer. Suddenly she was learning about the creatures she loves — all on her own. That spark was everything. ✨

👉 So here’s the tip:
✨ Follow their interests.
✨ Visit the library and explore together.
✨ Let them choose — even if the book looks silly or “too easy.”✨ And never give up — that spark is waiting to be found! 💡

Let kids fall in love with reading their way. 💛

READ READ READ

Reading or being read to frequently helps children develop stronger vocabulary, fluency, and a love for reading.

Reading practice doesn’t have to take long - and it can be FUN
Here are some quick activities you can do with your child to help support their reading journey.

Echo Reading:
Read a sentence aloud, then have your child repeat it. Fun + fluency in 60 seconds!

Word Hunt:
Pick a page and see how many words start with the same letter.

Silly Sentence Challenge:
Use words from a story to make the silliest sentence you can think of!

Hidden Word:
Use part of a post it to cover a word, have your child guess the word based on context.

Pro Tip: Keep a book handy anywhere—reading can happen in the car, at the park, or even under a blanket fort!

Hello everyone! 👋

I cannot believe we are almost into December!
It’s been a little quiet over on this page — and for a wonderful reason! I’ve been busy supporting so many amazing students this fall as they grow in their reading, writing, and math skills.

I am truly grateful for all of the families who trust me to be part of their child’s learning journey. Your support allows me to do what I love every single day!

Over the next little while, I’ll be sharing more helpful learning tips, fun resources, and a peek inside our tutoring sessions to help support learning at home too.

Thanks for being here — I’m excited to reconnect and grow this community together!

Warmly,

Tanya

Here is another fun Friday Freebie for you.
Practice making words with your little. This builds letter, sound, and recognition skills while being tactile and FUN. Happy Friday!

Friday Freebie!!

This activity may look simple, but it’s working on big skills! When children cut out words and rearrange them to form a sentence, they’re practicing:

🔤 Word recognition & reading fluency – seeing and saying familiar words
🧩 Sentence structure – understanding how words fit together to make meaning
✍️ Writing skills – spelling, spacing, and handwriting when they record their sentence
🎨 Comprehension & creativity – showing they understand their sentence by drawing a picture to match

Hands-on activities like this keep learning engaging while building the foundation for confident reading and writing! 💡📚

📖 Reading Tip of the Day
Make reading interactive! Instead of just reading to your child, pause and ask questions like:

- “What do you think will happen next?”
- “Why do you think the character did that?”
- “How would you feel if that happened to you?”

These little conversations build comprehension, critical thinking, and vocabulary—and they make reading more fun!
