Practising more answers doesn’t guarantee improvement. Correcting them properly does.

Useful feedback should show you:
👉 What the scenario is actually testing
👉 Which skills your answer could demonstrate
👉 The exact moment your reasoning becomes weak
👉 How to rebuild it without memorizing a script
👉 Whether you can transfer the lesson to a new scenario

The goal isn’t to hand you one “perfect” answer. It’s to improve how you reason when the next scenario is completely different.

For the parents in the room. CASPer is one of the most important and least understood parts of Canadian medical and dental admissions. This post is for you, share it with any parent navigating this process alongside their child. Free strategy call in bio if you want to talk through where your child is in their prep

A “good” CASPer answer can still lose points.

The problem? Saying you’re motivated isn’t the same as showing it.

When you write something like “I’d remind myself why I chose medicine,” you’re telling the evaluator you have motivation, but you’re not giving them any evidence of it.

Specificity makes your answer feel authentic, reflective, and personal.

Instead of naming the competency, demonstrate it.

That small difference can completely change how your answer is perceived.

The number that surprises most students: CASPer can represent up to 30% of your admissions file depending on the program. And yet the average applicant spends less than a week preparing for it… if they prepare at all.

This isn’t about scaring you. It’s about making sure you allocate your prep time the way your application actually weights things.

Save this post so you remember to come back to it.

90 seconds per question. That’s the framework.

Not because you can’t say more… because question 2 deserves just as much of your score as question 1.

Time management is one of the five things that directly impacts your quartile. Students most consistently underestimate it.

Tag someone who needs this before their test.

Your first reaction isn’t always your best response.

When feedback feels unfair, the easy options are to either accept it silently or immediately defend yourself.

Neither shows much judgment.

A stronger CASPer response shows that you can reflect without becoming passive and advocate for yourself without becoming defensive.

Pause. Consider their perspective. Then, if you still disagree, address it respectfully.

That’s the difference between simply sounding professional and demonstrating the judgment of a future healthcare professional.

Reflect first. Advocate second.

Save this for your CASPer prep and follow us for Episode 6.

Practicing CASPer on your own could be the reason you’re not improving.

The problem? You can’t always see what’s missing in your own answers.

Getting feedback from someone else can uncover blind spots you would’ve never caught on your own.

How do you practice for CASPer: solo or with others?

Empathy doesn’t necessarily mean 4th quartile! Watch as we discuss how an empathetic answer could still miss a very important point.
