Very few things make me nervous...
Heights. Roller coasters. Centipedes. (Why so many legs. Why?)
And now we can add launching my Youtube channel to that list.
Let me explain... Earlier in the year, I decided to go "all-in" on Youtube as my main traffic source. I had set the intention for every second of every minute of every video to be perfect. (You can probably spot the problem already.)
I bought a camera.
Learned about lighting.
Painted a backdrop.
Hung some shelves.
But because perfect is a lie, there was no end to the preparation. Finally, I got real with myself and got help in the form of hiring my rockstar content manager, Nadia. And voila, like magic, we started churning out videos together. What made all the difference?
Accountability.
And I imagine, that for the folks who come to work with me on their messaging, it's a similar scenario. Just like me, you might have lost months to "perfection procrastination". And just like me, you might just need some accountability to go from confusion to completion.
If that's the case, know that you're not alone.
I'm out here cheering you on.

The BIGGEST myth around copywriting is that it's all about coming up with clever taglines or catchy slogans.
This couldn't be further from the truth.
Great copy is about showing your potential customer that you get them. (Like really get them.) And that you have a proven plan to get the results they are after.
It has almost nothing to do with your ability to write pretty prose.
This is a GOOD thing because it takes the pressure off.
Instead of wracking your brain for something neat to say, all you have to do is show that you understand the thoughts, feelings and beliefs of your potential customer.
Which is where I come in 😉
In just 90 days I'm going to show YOU how to do this very thing for your business.
We will work closely together to find those sticky moments of truth and turn them into assets you will use to attract your ideal customer.
But I only have 3 spots left for this coming round of StoryStacking Academy before it's SOLD OUT.

This is me smiling like a dork. 🤣
Back in 2005, I bought these at-home workout DVD's.
They were part dance party, part kickboxing, and 100% AWESOME.
I literally spent HOURS in my living room working up a sweat.
So many hours in fact, that my fiancee can sing the TurboJam music, on cue, just from having been in the background.
Who would have thought that in the year 2019, I'd get the chance to WRITE COPY for Chalene Johnson. The creator of TurboJam.
(Not to mention that she has built and sold 8, 7-figure businesses and published a New York Time's Bestselling book. I don't know when she sleeps.)
And you know what?
Chalene is just as amazing in real life as she on video or in her social media posts.
Catch my guest spot interview on her Tribe Building Podcast that goes live TODAY.
If you're familiar with her podcast already, I hope you like our chat (and that I didn't sound too nervous). 🙀
If you haven't listened to her content before, you're in for a treat. This is likely going to become one of your favorite podcasts.

Can't seem to nail your brand voice? 😫
It's not your fault. It's probably because you're following old or confusing advice.
Most experts will tell you to pick 3-4 adjectives out of the air...words like "friendly, charming, helpful."
And then somehow, that's supposed to be enough for you to write personality-packed web copy, emails, or social posts. (Hint: it's not)
The solution lies in making 2 specific choices.
1. What's your brand promise?
2. What are your brand voice patterns?
When you do that, you can write engaging copy that sounds like you (and maybe even better) with the kind of speed and ease that was once reserved for high-priced copywriters.

Want to punch up your emails?
One of the easiest ways to grab your reader and keep them engaged is to edit out any fluff or preamble in your first draft.
Look for the punchy bits (often buried halfway down your copy) and drag them to the top so you can drop your reader right into the action without any delay.
How do you add personality to your copy?
An easy hack is to add pops of style into your subheadings.
This gives you the ability to focus on clarity (and conversions) in your headline, but balance it with your unique sense of style.
It's the best of both worlds: clarity + creativity 😇
Real talk.
I've avoided my own marketing for YEARS now. It was just too easy to prioritize client work. And while the business would regularly hit 6 figures a year just through referrals --I was hiding.
It felt so safe to sit down at my desk and write copy or run Facebook ads for someone else instead of doing it for myself.
(You might feel the same tension when you write copy for yourself or focus on your own marketing. )
So I promised myself that for the next 90 days, my job is to get in the arena. Get visible. Get my a$ # kicked.
And while it feels super vulnerable. It's also been super fruitful with emails and comments like the one in this post.
So if you're hiding behind client work or resisting doing the things that will help you build your brand, I challenge you to join me over the next 90 days. Let's do this together.
1. Join my email list: https://brandsarestories.lpages.co/60-second-brand-voice-lead-magnet/
2. DM me your GOALS. I want to hear them.
Let's do this together.

We looooooooove a hero story.
It's deeply comforting to hear about a deserving hero who fights their way through thick and thin in order to achieve their goals.
It makes us feel like there is order in the world.
Justice.
Hope.
And what's better than a hero story?
A whole brand voice built around the hero as an archetype.
Which is one of the reasons the Hero archetype is one of the most BELOVED of the 12 archetypes...
Because if the Hero can achieve great things, despite the odds. Then YOU can achieve great things, too. (What a promise, right?!)
Here's the latest breakdown of the Hero archetype with a review of Marie Forleo (link in the comments).
