Exercise has been a part of human life since the beginning of time, but it wasn't until relatively recently that it was recognized as a means of training for various purposes. The ancient Greeks were some of the first to use exercise as a way to train for physical activities, such as sports and warfare. During the Middle Ages, physical fitness was less of a priority, as most people were focused on surviving and making a living. However, during the Renaissance, there was a renewed interest in physical activity, as people began to place more value on the body and its abilities.

In the 19th century, the exercise began to be recognized as a means of improving health and fitness. German educator Friedrich Ludwig Jahn is often credited with starting the modern fitness movement, as he developed a system of gymnastics that was used to train soldiers in the early 1800s.

In the early 20th century, exercise became more accessible to the general public, thanks to the development of gyms and fitness centers. Today, exercise is a part of many people's daily routines, and it is recognized as an important part of maintaining good health.
