Remembering Speedy

There was a nice sendoff for Speedy in Calgary last week, but many, many people who knew him were not able to make the trip there. So, the Zeta Psi Foundation of Canada will be hosting a Zoom event on Sunday, May 3rd, at 4pm EDT.

This will be a chance to raise a glass in Speedy's memory, share your favourite Speedy story, and give him a good-bye from his Brothers from around the globe.

NOTICE FROM THE ZETA PSI FOUNDATION OF CANADA

Brian “Speedy” McCready, Chi Gamma (Calgary) ‘99

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of “Speedy” last week. “Speedy” had been a loyal and proud member of Zeta Psi since his initiation almost 30 years ago: he was a stalwart Elder for the Chi Gamma Chapter, especially during some of the years when the Chapter was struggling; he has met many Zetes over the decades through his regular attendance at Zeta Psi conventions and Founder’s Day dinners; he had mentored many younger Zetes the Zeta Psi ritual through his zealous involvement in the Ritual Committee and The Torch program; and he had served for the past two years as the President of the Zeta Psi Foundation of Canada.

The Zeta Psi Foundation of Canada truly appreciates the leadership that he has provided and will be holding a wake for “Speedy” over Zoom, in the near future. If you would like to participate please contact Barth Gillan ([email protected]). Donations in memory of “Speedy” can be made to the Zeta Psi Foundation of Canada, helping to keep his legacy alive through the creation of a new scholarship in his name.

The Zeta Psi Foundation of Canada will use your support to provide scholarships, to support member education and leadership training in Canada, and will be ready to provide emergency funding to those impacted by unforeseen circumstances. We have been busy in 2025:

• We supported the Canadian Greek Leadership Summit in Toronto in March, providing scholarships to out-of-province students to participate ($8,465).

• We provided emergency aid to students in need ($4,880).

• This Fall, we have issued scholarships to 44 students ($12,750).

We can do more, with more. Please consider making your 2025 gift by December 31 to receive a tax receipt and help us continue investing in the success of students across Canada.
