Looking for a facilitator for a 21-year-old student doing their first teaching internship in a university-based Education Program (Training to become a High School Teacher)
Candidates must:
1. Be available November 15 – December 03 2021 inclusive
2. Have experience working with adolescents/adults with Asperger’s Syndrome/High Functioning Autism or Social Skills Training
3. Be able to outline and break down the social interactions expected of the student in different situations with the cooperating teacher (CT), other school staff, and students, and give feedback in the classroom as the student tries to master these.
4. Help the student to break down the competencies and help them to understand how they are specifically applied in a teaching setting (in practice, in the actual setting)
5. Help to rephrase instructions, feedback, or comments that are given to the student in a way that is direct and clear and that they understand
6. Help the student to communicate to their CT in a way that is direct and clear as this can be challenging for the student.
7. Provide immediate feedback in a direct way that allows the student to recognize and make the change right away.
8. Act as an impartial facilitator when the student has questions so there is no fear that asking a question would negatively impact their assessment during the stage.
9. Help the student to share their diagnosis with the CT and others in the school as people do not always recognize invisible disabilities and the students is not always comfortable sharing this. For example, the difficulty they have understanding a verbal request, that they can be very literal or the rigidity they can have if they think that they understand something but do not.
LOCATION IS TBD - DEPENDING ON WHICH HIGH SCHOOL SCHOOL THE UNIVERSITY PLACES THIS STUDENT
10. Salary 20-50$/hr depending on experience
Contract length: 3 weeks
Part-time hours: 20-25 per week
Expected Start Date: 2021-11-15
