A helpful attendance tip: Schedule appointments and family errands outside of school hours whenever possible. Protecting learning time helps students stay connected to their teachers, classmates, and daily routines.
⚠️ Did you know? Research shows that children who are chronically absent in the early years are much less likely to read at grade level by Grade 3, a milestone strongly linked to future academic success and graduation outcomes.

📚 Early Reading Screening is Underway Across HPCDSB!
Our Senior Kindergarten to Grade 2 students are participating in our Beginning of Year (BOY) reading screening!

Early screening helps us identify students who may need additional reading support. Following screening, our Literacy Team and educators will meet to review results, identify student needs, and plan targeted instruction to support student success.

Yesterday, over 30 HPCDSB staff from across elementary, secondary, and leadership roles joined educators from school boards across Southwestern Ontario in London for the Coaching to Inclusion Conference!

We were privileged to spend the day learning with keynote speaker Dr. Shelley Moore, who is an internationally recognized leading expert and researcher in inclusive education. Shelley brought incredible energy to the stage, challenging us to place student agency at the centre of secondary inclusion while emphasizing in-depth curriculum knowledge and practical ways to make grade-level content accessible so all students have the opportunity to access learning and succeed.

We were also thrilled to celebrate Kathy Rutledge (EA at St. Joseph's Catholic School, Stratford), recipient of the Champion of Inclusion Award! Thank you, Kathy, for your incredible dedication to fostering belonging and success for all students.

The past couple of weeks, our CEO, Karen Tigani had the opportunity to visit some schools across the district to witness our students and staff in action! ✝️
From classrooms to hallways, faith and learning are truly "On Fire with the Spirit!" throughout HPCDSB ❤️‍🔥
Here are just a few inspiring moments from the visits:
🏫Faith & Community in Action: New teachers hosting lunch-hour choir practices for school Mass, and principals and chaplains coming together with staff for after-school prayer liturgies.
✅Student Leadership & Connection: Grade 8 student leaders proudly making connections to the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations (OCSGEs), and warm hall greetings bringing daily joy.
😊Comfort & Kindness: Educational Assistants turning meltdowns into laughter within minutes through patience, love, and care.
📚Joyful Learning: Primary students sharing what brings them joy—from snuggles and recess to family dinners—while reading “I Will Rejoice”.
🎨Art & Expression: Beautiful bulletin boards and art projects showcasing truth and reconciliation, family life, kindness, and a deep love of Jesus.
⭐Dedicated Educators: Teams collaborating on EQAO data to support student achievement, alongside learning coordination teams hosting orientation for new teachers.
Even in challenging moments, our school communities consistently come together to pray, support one another, and offer encouragement. We are deeply grateful for our dedicated staff, joyful students, and vibrant Catholic school communities!

Whether you own or rent, have children or not, as a Roman Catholic, you have the right to designate your support to the Catholic School Board in your community and vote for a Catholic School Board Trustee. Make sure you are registered as a Catholic school supporter before the election. 👉 You can check if you are registered to vote at this site (https://vreg.registertovoteon.ca/en/home ) and when you do so, it will indicate what board you are registered to vote with.
If you aren’t yet registered as an “English Separate Catholic” supporter and you want to be able to vote in this year’s municipal election, you will need to contact the municipal clerk of the municipality you reside at in order to change your status in time of the election.
