Happy Birthday!! Born Alfred Bessette on August 9, 1845 in Saint-Grégoire-le-Grand, St. André Bessette is Canada’s first native-born male saint. St. André has a special connection to the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board wherein he often visited the hamlets of Huron County specifically, St. Joseph and in Perth County specifically, Kinkora. In the spring of 2022 The Huron-Perth CDSB's Board of Trustees adopted the motion to recognize S. Andre Bessette as the Board's Patron Saint.

A Friend. A Brother. A Saint. The month of August is dedicated to Saint Brother André, Patron Saint of Family Caregivers. The religious brother welcomed thousands of distressed people or those who were looking for a ray of hope. He listened to them and recommended that they pray to Saint Joseph in whom he had full confidence. Any number of miraculous healings took place there and hearts turned toward God. Today, Saint Brother André continues to be an inspiration and a friend for women and men of any religious practice.
