Positive Shift is an initiative by the Ministry of Equity and Social Justice under UTMSU whose continuing mission is to foster safer, more inclusive spaces for LGBTTIPQQ2SA* (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*/Transgender, Transsexual, Intersex, Pansexual, Queer*, Questioning, Two-Spirited, Asexual) students across campus through bi-weekly meetings to hear and respond to the needs of the LBGTQ* commun
ity and make positive changes on campus. From these meetings we will start new campaigns and events based on the input from self-identifying members of the community. Positive Shift is a place for Queer* and Trans* voices to be heard so that all resulting campaigns, events and policy changes will be representative of the community's needs. The purpose of Positive Shift is to both broaden the range of UTMSU's LGBTQ* programming while focusing its goals so that real, measurable accomplishments can be made each year going forward toward making UTM a more inclusive and equitable campus environment for queer* and trans* students, as well as staff and faculty. Positive Shift is a student led initiative that welcomes collaboration with organizations across UTM and the U of T tri-campus to organize around shared goals of education, awareness raising and community building for LGBTQ* and their allies.
