Have you ever thought, “I KNOW my child is smarter than other people are realizing”?

Your child may be twice-exceptional, also known as 2e.

Twice-exceptional children have exceptional strengths or abilities while also experiencing challenges in another area. A highly capable child may also have ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, executive-function difficulties, or another learning difference.

This combination can make 2e children difficult to recognize.

Sometimes their intelligence allows them to compensate for their challenges, masking the areas where they need support. Other times, their challenges become so noticeable that they overshadow their exceptional abilities.

The result? Parents are often left thinking:

“I know my child is incredibly capable…but something just isn’t adding up.”

Being exceptionally capable and needing support are not opposites. A child can be both.

Have you ever thought, I KNOW my child is smarter than other people are realizing?

It’s only Week 3 of the school year but you may already be noticing things you hoped would be different this year.

What if the pattern you’re seeing is telling you something?

One of the most important questions parents can ask right now isn’t, “Is my child getting the work done?”

It’s “What does getting the work done require from my child?”

Back to school is a fresh start but sometimes the same struggles follow a child into a new year.

A child may be bright, capable and trying hard, yet still struggle with reading, writing, math, attention, organization, confidence or simply keeping up with increasing expectations.

This year, one question keeps coming back to us:

What is your child’s struggle trying to tell you?

Sometimes the answer is not “try harder.” Sometimes the demands have changed, the old assumptions no longer fit, or there is an underlying skill that needs to be understood differently.

When students who struggle in some area get dismissed, it’s not evidence-based education, it’s the absence of It.

At Accelerated Potential Academy, we’ve worked with every kind of learner:

The high-achieving student whose confidence hides quiet anxiety.

Back-to-school is getting close and we’ve been thinking about the questions parents ask us most.

Why does my child understand something one day and forget it the next?
Why can they read the words but struggle to explain what they read?
Why does homework take so long?
Why are they capable of so much more than they’re showing at school?

And perhaps the biggest question:
Do they need more practice OR do they need to be taught differently?

Sometimes a report card doesn’t tell the whole story.

This is the story of a quiet 12-year-old who was “meeting expectations” on paper, yet had been struggling for years with reading, math, confidence, and the courage to speak up.

Her parents trusted their intuition and that decision changed the direction of her learning.
