I recently read “I Walk with Vanessa”, a beautiful wordless book, to the class. While it didn’t have any text, we ‘read’ it together by observing the illustrations and discussing what the characters might be feeling or thinking. ☺️🤔💭💬
To turn this into a lesson, I introduced speech and thought bubbles, encouraging the students to imagine what the characters could be saying or thinking. The lesson was a powerful reminder that even the simplest acts of kindness can make a big difference, and the students truly grasped that message. 💙

Stepping into the teacher’s perspective while planning a lesson was such an eye-opening experience. Although I didn’t get the chance to capture the students during this activity, it was definitely my favorite! The students had so much fun listening to various sounds, drawing pictures, and creating their own stories. 🎨✍🏻
One key lesson I learned: Kindergarteners and Grade 1 students are far more perceptive and capable than we often give them credit for. Their openness to making mistakes and their natural curiosity truly blew me away. 😁

It’s been a little while since my last post, but I’ve been busy strengthening my teaching practice and enjoying a well-deserved winter break. ❄️
During my recent practicum, I had the opportunity to explore a range of creative teaching methods, including using pictures, sounds, storytelling, and drama play to engage students’ imaginations. I also focused on enhancing my math skills and gained valuable hands-on experience with various classroom resources. I’m excited to apply these new insights as I continue to grow as an educator. 🤗

What is Mindfulness?
- Being present in the moment and connecting to the world
- Becoming aware of bodily sensations, rate of breathing, and calming of the mind
- Helps to manage stress, well-being, and a deeper connection with one’s self
My colleagues and I created a small booklet to use in any classrooms. It’s a great way to have students decompress between subjects.
