Gembu Public School Sponsorship Our goal is to support Global Literacy and to aid Gechaan HIV ministries in this very poor state in Nigeria where HIV is still a huge factor.

On April 12 I met a teacher from Nigeria whose name is Josephine Kingsley Madsen. She described the school situation in Gembu. I am a retired school teacher living in Canada. Jesus so burdened me with the poverty of this school which is located near Gehaan which is a Hospital Mission for HIV. Josephine showed me pictures of 264 children aged 3-6 huddled in a concrete room with only a blackboard an

d a teacher. There were many children crying. We discussed the need for school supplies and texts for the school. I collected money for shipping and school supplies for 5 weeks. The results have been life changing for the whole school not just the pre-schoolers but the older classes of this middle school. Many had never seen a crayon or played with a game. During this summer the students will receive boxes of supplies every 2 weeks. In August the missionaries from Gechaan Hospital Tina and Dan Gibbs will return with 2 large bags more! These supplies are distributed by the school supervisor and Pastor Josephine Kingsley Madsen and her husband Kingsley Madsen who then send us pictures of the children receiving their supplies. The happiness is beautiful to see. The next mission is in September and will focus on text books, funds for shipping, used white polo shirts sz.4-12 and navy dress shorts sz4-12. Also flip flops all sizes and back to school bargains. We look forward to having new team members as we endeavor to empower these children to become leaders in their villages and enjoy the same benefits that those in sponsored schools enjoy. You have made my life so meaningful. I have loved you, and prayed with you. The world is no place for a faint heart. Please pray for and be present for people in need. Be kind to each other. RECONCILE differences readily. I am grateful for all the sponsors and especially for the teachers and children attending our sponsored school.

Racism is not ok! Be a part of the solution. Nigeria's Sardauna Public School needed us and we were there. See the pictures on this site. This group was inspired by my Grandmother's love for Nigeria's children. I adored her and saw this as an opportunity to honor her and join Josephine Kingsley Madsen in her quest to change a school with a desperate shortage of teaching materials. I am so proud of our efforts!
