JUBA, JUNE 24, 2026 — The President of the Republic His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit has received a detailed briefing from Vice President and Chairperson for Service Cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol following his recent tour of several areas in the Bahr el Ghazal region, where he engaged with communities at the grassroots level and gathered urgent development priorities and concerns.

During the briefing, VP Hussein outlined key issues raised by citizens, with particular emphasis on the urgent need to improve road connectivity across rural and semi-rural areas. Communities also highlighted challenges in accessing clean and safe drinking water, especially in agricultural settlements where many farmers have relocated in pursuit of farming activities.

A five-day-old infant who miraculously survived a gunshot wound to the head during a deadly attack on his family in Tonj East County has been transferred to Nairobi, Kenya, for advanced medical treatment and specialized care.

The tragic attack claimed the lives of the child’s father, mother, and two-year-old sister, leaving the newborn as the sole survivor. He departed Juba accompanied by three family members: his maternal uncle, paternal uncle, and maternal grandmother.

The medical evacuation and ongoing care are being fully sponsored by Hon. Adut Salva Kiir, who assumed responsibility for supporting the child and his caregivers throughout the treatment process and beyond.

The infant and his family were seen off at Juba International Airport by Mr. Albino Kuek Deng, Press Secretary in the Office of the Senior Presidential Envoy for Special Programs.

The transfer marks the conclusion of public media engagement regarding the child’s case after the First Daughter took full responsibility for his medical treatment, welfare, and future care.
