From student to teacher, Zach Callan’s co-op placement at Ampere became an opportunity to lead, learn, and discover the power of positivity. 🌟

Zach joined our team through LCVI’s high school co-op program, supporting process documents, onboarding tutorials, and STEAM School. Leading lessons for STEAM School students became a highlight of his placement and helped him discover how much he enjoys teaching and sharing his curiosity with others. πŸš€

β€œI loved being able to see something so beloved to me shared with the youth,” Zach says.

Although his placement has come to an end, Zach’s journey is only beginning. We were honoured to be part of his story and cannot wait to see where his passion, abilities, and curiosity take him next! πŸ’™

Summer has us looking back at one of our favourite nature-inspired STEAM School projects! β˜€οΈπŸ¦

Learners combined art, engineering, and plenty of creativity to design and build their own birdhouses. From planning each structure to carefully assembling the pieces, they explored how shapes and materials work together while bringing their unique ideas to life. 🏠✨

Projects like this show how simple materials can inspire problem-solving, hands-on learning, and creations worth celebrating! πŸ’™

The numbers tell one story. The connections tell another. πŸ’™

STEAM School grew from four recurring learners in its first year to 12 and a waitlist in its second, but the program’s success goes far beyond enrolment. πŸŽ‰

Throughout the year, learners explored their interests, stepped outside their comfort zones, built confidence, and formed meaningful friendships in a space where they could be themselves. Learning extended into the community with visits to Kawartha Lakes Public Library, Kawartha Art Gallery, Kawartha Lakes Museum & Archives, and the Riverview Park & Zoo. πŸ‘

What a year of creating, experimenting, and discovering at STEAM School! πŸ”¬πŸŽ¨

Throughout the 2025/2026 school year, learners explored science through bubble experiments, created colourful screen prints, designed imaginative cardboard builds, shared their ideas, and worked together to bring their projects to life. πŸ’‘

Each activity offered a new opportunity to ask questions, solve problems, build confidence, and learn through hands-on experiences. Swipe through for a look at some of our favourite memories and learning moments from the year! πŸ™Œ

At STEAM School, learning is about more than building new skills. It’s about creating a space where every student feels safe, included, and excited to explore. πŸ’™

One parent shared: β€œThank you for creating such a safe, inclusive and stimulating space for her. It is such a joy to watch her confidently enter that room and excitedly share with us at the end of the day.”

Hearing feedback like this reminds us why that environment matters. Watching students grow in confidence, embrace new challenges, and eagerly share what they’ve learned is one of the most rewarding parts of STEAM School. πŸŽ‰

Thank you to our students and families for being part of such a curious, creative, and supportive learning community! πŸ™Œ

What better way to wrap up an incredible year at STEAM School than with a visit to the Riverview Park & Zoo! πŸ¦πŸ“Έ

Our learners explored animal habitats, discovered the importance of conservation, completed scavenger hunts, captured creative photos, and connected classroom learning with real-world experiences. 🌎

"Field trips matter because they give learners opportunities to experience concepts in real life, making learning more engaging, memorable and meaningful." β€” Melissa Jegeris, STEAM Educator

Thank you to our learners, families, and educators for another amazing year of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning. πŸ’™

Through science, technology, engineering, art, and math, our learners embraced every opportunity to explore, create, problem-solve, and grow. Throughout the year, they built new skills, tackled exciting challenges, discovered new passions, and showed us just how powerful curiosity can be. πŸš€

Every project, experiment, field trip, and creative idea helped make this school year one to remember. We're so proud of everything our learners accomplished and grateful to the families who supported them every step of the way. πŸ’™

Thank you for being part of another amazing year of learning through creativity, collaboration, and innovation. We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and relaxing summer. We can't wait to see what next year brings! β˜€οΈ

We challenged our STEAM School learners to design and build a hat out of cardboard using our newest classroom addition: the ChompSaw from Chompshop! 🎩

After learning how the ChompSaw works, reviewing its safety features, and completing a tutorial, learners jumped right into the design process. They brainstormed ideas, sketched blueprints, and then brought their creations to life by cutting, shaping, and assembling their custom cardboard hats. βœ‚οΈ

From imaginative concepts to finished designs, it was incredible to see their STEAM skills in action as they combined creativity, problem-solving, design thinking, and hands-on making! πŸ™Œ

Who says math can't tell a story? πŸ“š

STEAM School learners recently researched influential mathematicians from history and created presentations to share their discoveries with classmates and Ampere staff. Along the way, they explored the people and ideas that have shaped the world of mathematics. βž—

To make things even more interactive, each learner also designed a math challenge for the audience to solve, encouraging everyone to think critically and put their problem-solving skills to the test! 🧩

Through research, creativity, and public speaking, learners built confidence while discovering that math is about so much more than numbers. 🌟
