✨⭐ Big cheers for our Dr. Elliott Cross Country runners! ⭐✨

Our athletes showed up with incredible grit, heart, and determination at the meet. We had an outstanding showing, with numerous runners crossing the finish line in the top 20 of their classes and so many athletes clocking brand-new personal best times!

Cross country is no easy feat, but this group embraced the challenge every step of the way. From regular after school practices for the past six weeks leading up to race day today, their dedication to personal improvement, resilience, and positive attitudes on and off the course have made our entire school community proud.

Official times and standings will be drop later this week, but we are already bursting with pride for every runner who took on the challenge and left it all on the course.

Building connections, one page at a time! 📚✨
Our Grade 6 students and Kindergarteners came together in the library this week for reading buddies, and the magic was undeniable. Watching our oldest elementary students guide, read with, and listen to our youngest learners shows what community is all about.
Programs like reading buddies foster a deep sense of belonging, build meaningful relationships across grade levels, and empower our Grade 6s to step into compassionate leadership roles. For our Kindergarteners, having a big buddy makes school feel even more safe, welcoming, and fun! ⭐️

🎲 More Than Just a Game: Learning & Growing Together through Uno! 🃏✨
Our Grade 1 and 2 students have been busy shuffling, matching, and strategizing as they learn how to play Uno! While card games are plenty of fun, moments like these are about so much more than winning or losing. 
Playing games together offers our young learners a rich space to build essential social-emotional skills:
Connection & Belonging: Sitting together, sharing laughs, and supporting classmates creates a welcoming space where every child feels included. 
Patience & Taking Turns: Waiting for their next go helps build self-regulation and focus. 
Sportsmanship & Resiliency: Learning to celebrate a friend’s win—or gracefully handle a Draw 4—helps students practice empathy, kindness, and emotional strength. 
Critical Thinking: Sorting by color and number gives their growing brains a fun boost in strategy and problem-solving! 
Building a safe, caring, and connected school community starts with simple, joyful moments like these.

🧡 Orange Shirt Day at Dr. Elliott School 🧡

Students and staff at Dr. Elliott School wore orange today in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Throughout the school, students participated in a variety of meaningful learning activities focused on Truth and Reconciliation. These included learning about the significance of this important day in Canada, participating in traditional Indigenous games, learning about the history and lasting impacts of residential schools, and developing a deeper understanding of our land acknowledgement.

Our elementary students also took part in a playground clean-up as a way to demonstrate care and respect for the land.

Today provided opportunities for our students to learn, reflect, and consider the role we can all play in moving forward with respect, understanding, and reconciliation.
