Monarch Butterfly tagging and release with students from Durham Region at Ontario Power Generation. Students from grades 5 to 12 learned about pollinators such as Butterflies and Bees. It was a great day spent with the young people who will help to preserve our planet.

Thousands of Painted Lady caterpillar eggs on just one leaf. The female puts a sticky sustance on the egg, so she can stick it pretty well anywere she wants to on a host plant. We will send out close to 25 000 Painted Lady Caterpillars to schools accross Canada in the next 7-8 weeks, and the kids will get to witness the full life cycle of a butterfly. Then they get to release them into the wild. WE also do Monarch kits in the fall.

Still in the chrysalis stage, but not for long. You can see the wings of the butterfly in the last 10-12 hours before the butterfly emerges. The chrysalis changes from a beautify emerald green colour to a clear casing.

Monarchs just love Lilacs, all butterflies are well fed before they are released, to ensure they are strong and healthy, they are also newborns!! All butterflies have just emerged from their chrysalis, normally a couple of day's before release, an adult Monarch can live up 6-8 months. We also Make sure there are both Male and female butterflies in all of our releases, helping out the wild population.

Monarch Season is Upon Us !!! For months we look forward to the return of the beautiful Monarch Butterfly. Well, they are HERE now and ready for release!

Beginning at the egg, the monarch will journey through life as a caterpillar, enter the pupae stage and finally emerge as an adult butterfly. This process will take about 32 days and their life as an adult butterfly will begin.

Well it's caterpillar season again. In the next 7 weeks we will be sending out over 22,000 caterpillars to grade three classes, and daycares right accross Canada. This without a doubt my favorite time of year.

Without a question The Terry Fox Run is one of our favorite events to donate butterflies to, and this year was even more special. As we all know, Betty Lou Fox ( Terry's Mother) passed away on June 17 th 2011. She will be forever remembered.
