For international students studying in Nanaimo, the experience extends far beyond the classroom.
Students from around the world join sports teams, explore Vancouver Island, and form meaningful friendships in Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools.
Grade 11 student Emma Stan travelled from Germany to study in Nanaimo, drawn by Vancouver Island’s natural beauty and Wellington Secondary’s track-and-field opportunities. Since arriving, she has thrown herself into school life, athletics and exploring the community with her host family.

Important information for June 3, 2026
Dear Ladysmith Secondary families and caregivers,
Ladysmith Secondary will be closed tomorrow, June 3 following a small fire at approximately 5:15 pm today.
The fire started in the computer lab and appears to be electrical. Everyone exited the building and there are no injuries.
Due to smoke and water from the building’s sprinklers, school will be closed tomorrow to allow for remediation and cleaning.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
Sincerely,
Shelley Gvojich
Principal, Ladysmith Secondary

🚐✨ Big news for Food4Schools!
We’re excited to share a first look at our new NLSF delivery van — the next step in strengthening how we support students across our community. 💙
This van will soon be fully branded and outfitted with racking and refrigeration, helping us safely and efficiently deliver food to schools throughout Nanaimo and Ladysmith.
Every upgrade like this means more reliable deliveries, fresher food, and ultimately more students supported each day. 🍎🥪
Thank you to our incredible community and partners who make growth like this possible — we can’t wait to get this van on the road!
