Things that made September better ✨👇

Finding out there’s academic, social + developmental support that truly meets your child where they’re at.

Knowing support doesn’t have to be one-size-fits-all — we can create a plan around your family’s needs, goals + schedule.

Discovering Saturday mornings can mean Breakfast + Books 📚🥞 — a new club just for girls ages 10–14.

Learning there’s a family-run studio right here in Kitchener built to support kids, teens + families.

Meeting a team of passionate educators who genuinely care about helping your child learn, grow + feel confident.

And finding out that Dr. Alison, creator of The Smartphone Effect MD, has joined The Skill Studio as our MD Consultant — bringing another layer of support to families navigating kids, screens, social development + growing up in a digital world.

September has been a good one🧡
And we’re just getting started🌱

Different minds. Endless possibilities.

Meet Kim Fraser! 👋💚

Kim is an OCT and Special Education Resource Teacher who supports learners ages 10–15 with ADHD, learning disabilities and subject-specific challenges.
Her approach starts with connection. Kim believes students learn best when they feel safe, understood and comfortable taking risks. She builds strong relationships with her learners so they can grow their skills, work through challenges and feel more confident in the classroom.

This fall, families can work with Kim through personalized 1:1 math tutoring designed around each learner’s individual needs and strengths.
Kim can provide support with:
✏️ Algebra
➗ Fractions and integers
🔢 Patterning
📚 Foundational math skills
💡 Subject-specific challenges
🧠 Confidence and learning strategies

One of Kim’s favourite reminders for learners?
Mistakes are how we learn. Celebrate them, use what you discover and keep going. You can do hard things! 🧡

Outside The Skill Studio, Kim loves french fries, the colour green and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. She would be a vet tech in another life, and her professional baseball walk-up song would be All These Things That I’ve Done by The Killers. 🎶

We’re so excited to have Kim’s warmth, experience and relationship-first approach at The Skill Studio.

Does your child struggle to get started, stay organized, remember what they need or manage big feelings when plans change?

These challenges aren’t a sign that they aren’t trying. They may need support strengthening their executive functioning skills.

Brain Builders is an interactive 8-week small-group program designed to help children develop practical, real-life skills through stories, hands-on games and relatable scenarios. Families will also receive a parent handbook and take-home activities to help reinforce these skills at home.

🧠 Ages 4–6: Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m.
🧠 Ages 7–10: Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.

Programs begin September 22, and spaces are limited.

If this sounds like your child, Brain Builders could be the support they need.

Meet Natasha Jobanputra! 👋💚

Natasha is an Assistive Technologist and Learning Strategist who helps learners build the confidence, independence and practical skills they need in school and beyond.
She supports learners with ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, executive functioning challenges and other learning differences. Her approach is strengths-based, collaborative and personalized because the right tools should work with a learner’s brain, not against it.

This fall, families can work with Natasha through:
📚 Personalized 1:1 tutoring for students in Grades 1–8
💻 Digital accessibility and assistive technology support for learners ages 12+
🗓️ Strategies for organization and time management
✏️ Support with note-taking, studying and self-advocacy

Natasha’s favourite reminder for learners?
When a task feels too big, break it into smaller pieces until it feels doable. Small steps still move you forward 🧡

Outside The Skill Studio, Natasha loves pasta, the colour green and anything by Noah Kahan. She is also a one-trip grocery champion, regularly responds to texts in her head without actually sending them, and has a very real fear of frogs 😂🐸
Her professional baseball walk-up song? Mamma Mia! by ABBA, obviously 🎶

We are so excited to have Natasha’s knowledge, warmth and practical approach at The Skill Studio.

Summer tutoring helped us feel so much more confident heading into the new school year! ✏️📚

Sometimes, what children learn in the classroom isn’t quite enough—and the nightly homework struggle can feel like a battle no one is winning.

That’s where we can help 🌱

The Skill Studio offers both 1:1 tutoring and small-group sessions designed to meet learners where they are. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all program filled with generic worksheets. We identify the areas where your child needs support, match them up with an associate that is the perfect fit, return to the foundational skills and build from there.

Spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Book today to secure individualized support designed around your child’s unique learning needs.

Let us take the homework battle off your plate and help your child feel capable, supported and ready to learn.

📩 Send us a message to find the right fit for your child.

Meet Jenny Ohrling! 📚✏️✨

Jenny is an Ontario Certified Teacher, recently retired from the classroom, but definitely not finished sharing her energy, creativity and love of learning with kids.

As Jenny says, “Enthusiasm is contagious!” And when it comes to stories, storytelling and writing, she brings plenty of it.

At The Skill Studio, Jenny supports families through:
📖 Young Authors’ Workshop
🏡 Homeschool Programming
🧸 Story & Tot Time

Jenny believes creativity is a gift and reminds her students often:
“It doesn’t need to be perfect.”

She creates a space where children can explore their ideas, build new skills and discover the confidence to share their voices.

Fun fact: During the early days of COVID, Jenny wrote a book for students to illustrate and helped raise more than $2,000 for Grand River Hospital 💛

When she isn’t surrounded by stories, you’ll find her enjoying pizza, listening to “Midnight Train to Georgia” and avoiding noisy cars... and possibly cats after one unexpectedly walked into her classroom 😂🐈

We are so excited to welcome Jenny to The Skill Studio!

Follow her at Jenny Maybee Ohrling and share this post with a family who would love learning with Jenny 🧡

Middle school and high school ask a lot at once. More subjects, more moving pieces, and more of the tracking quietly landing on your child. Executive function is the skill set underneath all of it, and it can be taught.

Our 8-week Executive Function program gives students ages 10 to 15 the practical tools to run their own day. Getting started when a task feels big. Reading a clock and a calendar honestly. Planning backwards from a due date. Building routines that still hold up on a full week.

A good fit for students who are working on task initiation, keeping track of time, or moving through the day with fewer reminders from parents and teachers. They leave with tools that belong to them.

Led by Kim F., OCT, Special Education Teacher.

📆 8 weeks, Wednesdays at 6:15pm, small groups of 5 students max. Kitchener studio, with virtual options across Ontario.

📧Email us to register at [email protected], or send us a message and we will help you work out the fit.

Meet Tanisha Snook! 👋🧡

Tanisha is a Registered Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker and Executive Function Coach who brings both professional expertise and lived experience to The Skill Studio.

She works in schools, supports families in the community and is a parent who has navigated the system with her own neurodiverse children. She understands how overwhelming it can feel when your child receives a diagnosis or needs support that is difficult to find.

Her goal is simple: fill the gaps, make the process feel less overwhelming and remind families that they are not alone.

This fall, Tanisha is offering:

🧠 The Brain Builder
An 8-week, hands-on executive functioning program that helps children strengthen focus, planning, organization, flexibility and emotional regulation.

Tuesdays:

🧡 Ages 4–6: 5:00–6:00 PM
🌿 Ages 7–10: 6:00–7:00 PM

🤝 Parent and Caregiver Coaching
Private 1:1 support for families navigating a new ASD or ADHD diagnosis.

Outside of work, Tanisha is the oldest of six siblings, says “bro” approximately 100 times a day and once ran directly into a screen door hard enough to leave a full-body imprint 😂

She loves pickles, pink and country music, and her baseball walk-up song would be Man! I Feel Like a Woman! 🎶💗🥒

We are so excited for families to learn from someone who brings so much knowledge, warmth, humour and genuine understanding to her work.

Help us welcome Tanisha to The Skill Studio! 🧡
