Kyle's Drums & Fun

Freestyle Friday:

Unearthed from storage, my first band ever back in 2005 was called Seiryu.

While still in high school, learning and playing with my first ever drumset, we had no idea how to record or what we were doing, but damn did we enjoy it and have fun...

This is one of many songs that we wrote that never even got the the vocal stage, out of tune guitars, drums out of sync, and all beginners to music, but huge fans nonetheless.

Nostalgia's a fun thing everyone, don't dread on the past, enjoy the great times you did have, and celebrate how you have grown and where you are now. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Wishlist Wednesday:

Hey everyone! Back with another item worthy of any drummer's collection, the limited edition PDP - Pacific Drums & Percussion Concept Series Metal Snare Drum.

This special limited edition is in the gun metal finish with black nickel hardware, instead of the standard chrome over chrome option, and I think it looks a million times better than the usual "mirrors" they tend to be.

With all of the same amazing features of the rest of the Concept Series line by PDP, these are truly amazing high-end caliber DW drums with a price tag that anyone can afford.

In stock at the local Long & McQuade (Kingston), look for this amazing snare amongst all the other great items they have on a daily basis.

Hey everyone! After a nice long weekend break I'm back with another Tribute Tuesday here at Drums & Fun.

Today is a song that I had the pleasure to be the original recording artist for Mike Whissell's 2015 Vintage Feel EP. The song is one of my all time favourites 'Ducklings & Swans'.

Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed and had some fun!

Thursday Technical:

I had an absolute blast this past week with my new friends at New Leaf Link showing them the basics of drums and giving them a tour of my lesson room!

A great group of individuals granting wonderful opportunities for adults with mental and physical disabilities to help them be connected and a part of the local community.

Here is a little sample of our hangout we held online, thank you Chris for inviting me and setting this all up! I am looking forward to next time :)

Wishlist Wednesday:

What a find!! Today's wishlist item is this absolute beauty of a Pearl Drums Reference Series custom drumset. This Sapphire Blue Sparkle kit is used in almost mint condition for a great deal at the local Long & McQuade (Kingston).

This 5-Piece Kit comes with 7", 10", and 12" Rack Toms, a 16" Floor Tom, and a 20" Bass Drum. All Reference series drums are handcrafted and customized depending on the size of the drums with three different types of wood (Birch, Maple, and Mahogany).

Only one step away from the best that Pearl has to offer, this kit new would normally be around another thousand dollars more if custom ordered today.

If you are looking for a kit to stand the test of time and be one of the best sounding drum sets you have ever heard, do yourself a favour and check this out!

Monday Motivation:

Hey everyone! Back with another great new release as the year of inspired music keeps rolling on!

Death From Above 1979 released their new album 'Is 4 Lovers' this past weekend off of the success of their newest single 'One + One'.

While it might not have the rocking ferocity of their previous releases, there is a maturity in their style and songwriting, exploring a more pop-sided approach for the album.

The sheer talent that this 2-piece band can play, sing, and reproduce live is amazing. Be sure to check it out!

Back for another 'Thursday Technical' at Kyle's Drums & Fun!

Continuing on my video series, these are my take on the classic drum sticking Paradiddles, performed each part separately as moving around the kit, then transforming it into a beat.

I hope you enjoy and have some fun, give it a try on your kit!

Wishlist Wednesday:

Hey everyone! I have a bunch of fun little items today, mainly focusing on percussion accessories, so let's get to it!

First up is the Meinl Percussion Foot Tambourine, a fun little add-on for $15 that can add a nice layer of jingle to your hand drum playing or even left foot hi-hat work on a kit!

Next is the Meinl Percussion Cajon Foot Tambourine, while similar to the first item, coming in at $20, it has an extra tambourine and a different layout and tone, more complementary to Cajon playing.

Next is the Meinl Percussion Foot Shaker, coming in at $17, this has that classic egg shaker sound that fits and plays really easily, freeing up a hand for your playing needs.

The Gibraltar Hardware Beat EFX is a really cool addition for your bass drum pedal, easily attach to your existing bass drum be**er, you can add a finger cymbal, tambourine, or shaker sound to your bass drum, or any combination of two/three for 7 possible sound options! Coming in a little more expensive than the other items today, the ~$45 price tag is comparable for three items in one package.

Lastly is the Meinl Percussion Hi-Hat Tambourine, easily attach to your hi hat stand above your cymbals, you can hear it every foot press or even use your sticks on ir for some added elements for your drum playing.

All of today's items are in-stock at the local Long & McQuade (Kingston) and feature some fun layers added to any type of playing. I look forward to trying out the foot shaker myself for my Cajon setup, maybe you will see it in a video to come soon!

Have a good one everyone!
