“A Warning to Young Karatelas’”. When in a real self defence situation - less is more. You need to have go to moves that work. The whole stop and start thing you see everywhere in karate today with pitter patter techniques (that won’t hurt anyone) teaches you very bad habits for defence in the real world. It’s better to be really good at a few simple direct techniques than okay at a lot. This is coming from someone who loves learning all types of techniques from all different styles - BUT in reality … it can be dangerous. Any hesitation can get you hurt and you need to have what works ready to go when you need it. Less is more. Hit hard as you can, hit as fast as you can and don’t stop if you get hit (because you probably will!) That’s what karate is about. Get hit and keep going, as in life. 🙏🏼 Good luck - Alex

“The tiger is for flexibility, so that one can target something instantly with agility. One can be relaxed and then move very fast immediately. The rapid technique represents that movement of the tiger.” - Shinjo Kiyohide (9x all Okinawan Karate Kata and Kumite Champion). One of his most memorable moments was his 3 second knockout with a high toe kick! His success in Okinawan competition earned him the nickname, “Okinawa’s Superman”.
