We were honoured to attend the 2nd National Truth and Reconciliation Day in Ottawa! It was wonderful to see the unveiling of the Dr. Peter H Bryce plaque at 61 Sparks St.

We were so honoured to take part in this important event and day. Thank you to Cindy Blackstock and her wonderful team for inviting us and for all the hard work they put in to make the day special. John gave several interviews and we got to visit the grave of Dr. P.H. Bryce.

Federal Court upholds landmark compensation order for First Nations children — CBC News The Federal Court today dismissed an application for a judicial review of a landmark human rights tribunal compensation order for First Nations children — leaving the federal government on the hook for billions of dollars in compensation related to the child welfare system.

We are participating in this important event!

“In honor of the first National Truth and Reconciliation Day, the Beechwood Cemetery Foundation has partnered with the Heart Project, the 7 Generations Assembly (A6G) and the Childhood Support Society and to First Nations family (Support Society) to organize a Public Day of Reconciliation through Education and Action to learn lessons from residential schools and other forms of colonialism, so that we can all implement calls for education. Truth and Reconciliation Commission action.

Join us in the Beechwood National Memorial Centre sacred space for the first ever full public exhibition of 57 tiles made by children and youth from across Canada to honor the children who attended residential schools in the framework of the Heart Project Educational Curriculum. The heart tiles project will be presented as a maze of memory to let guests learn the historical and contemporary truths of First Nations, métis and Inuit peoples, and their relationship with Canada.

After the maze of memory, historians John Milloy and Amber Johnson, Support Society and Beechwood Cemetery Foundation will lead visitors for a 45-minute visit to the history of reconciliation to see the plates showing the latest Residential Schools Key Character Resting Places, while discovering the 94 Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action. At the final stage of the reconciliation tour, join Echo the Beechwood Fox and Spirit Bear from the Support Society for a reading of Spirit Bear: Echoes of the Past. Inspired by the history of reconciliation tour and the removal of the statue of John A. Macdonald in Victoria, this news book helps people of all ages learn from history.

National Truth and Reconciliation Day at Beechwood Cemetery will be accessible to all people and accommodations can be made for those in need of help. We welcome people from all over Ottawa to experience National Truth and Reconciliation Day at Beechwood Cemetery.”
