🍂 Miyo Takwâkin! Happy First Day of Autumn!

Today, we welcome Takwâkin and all that comes with this beautiful season. As the days become cooler, we encourage parents and caregivers to make sure our awâsisak are dressed warmly for school so they can continue learning, playing and enjoying the outdoors in comfort. For Nehiyawak, the changing seasons carry important teachings and help guide our relationship with the world around us. The Maskwacîs Curriculum Development Guide shares:

“The four seasons: Pipon (winter), Mîyôskamin (spring), Nîpin (summer), and Takwâkin (fall) are a balanced system of relationships that guide and influence Nehiyaw traditions. In a current and historical context, the four seasons guide day-to-day life, which Kise Manito gifted Nehiyawak.”

These teachings remind us to know, understand and demonstrate respect for the foundational values at the heart of MESC: Îyinîw Mâmitonehicikan, Nehiyaw Pimâtisiwin, Nehiyawewin, ekwa Wâhkôhtowin. The Maskwacîs Curriculum reflects what Maskwacîsak value in Nehiyaw education and our vision for awâsisak to grow as lifelong learners through meaningful learning experiences grounded in our language, culture, relationships and ways of knowing.
