After learning about, and practicing, adjectives and adverbs all week, we worked on using these skills to expand a simple sentence.

We learned that the -y suffix can change a word to an adjective and that the -ly suffix can change a word to an adverb. We tapped out grapheme (base on the arm, suffix on the legs). Look closely, some words look like an -ly suffix but we realized the belonged to the base, not the suffix.

Learning about adjectives today. After describing a dog (noun) she then used her adjectives to expand a simple sentence. What neat penmanship from an SK. Looks like you're ready for grade 1.

While teaching my kindergarten student about the long u grapheme , we noticed those letters in other words doing something different. She sorted these words after flexing the vowel sounds and using her skills of open and closed syllables.

Schwa- the most common sound and vowel in the English language. What is it? When a vowel gets "lazy" it says /u/ or /i/. This happens in unstressed syllables. April 7 - Unstressed like a schwa. Celebrate with us.

Today I worked with a grade 1 student to identify what job the is doing. She was able to identify when it was a suffix or when it used to be a changed to an . Word sums included.

The suffix -s has two meanings: Plural, 3rd person singular. We noticed today that when added to nouns it means plural and when added to verbs it carries the meaning of 3rd person singular.

This was done with a kindergarten student. Her next step was to sort these words based on what sound the makes /s/ /z/.

Look at the physical word matrix we made today using only the affixes we knew. Afterwards, we made word sums and completed words using these morphemes.
