"Christianity and the Qur'an: The Rise of Islam in Christian Arabia" was written in 2025 by Gabriel Said Reynolds, a historian and academic with a specific focus in religion and Islamic studies at the University of Notre Dame. Said Reynolds uses four parts to explore the historical context of Muhammad's influence in 610 CE - Traditional Ideas about Christianity in Muhammad's Arabia; Christian Material in the Qur'an; Christianity in the Qur'an's Historical Context; and the Qur'an in Conversation with Christianity. The book explores the dialogue between the two religions, the many overlaps of Islamic and Christian doctrine and how each engages with the other. It's a beautiful day in Halifax, but sadly the Library has to close because we have issues with the water supply! We hope to open as soon as the issue is resolved. In the meantime, it's a great day to study outdoors in the sunshine...

Spring has sprung! 🦋 Celebrate by taking a moment to appreciate the illustrations of Maria Sibylla Merian, naturalist, scientific illustrator, and one of the foremost female scientists of the 17th century.
You can peruse our stunning reference copy of her 'Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium' in our sunny reading room, or borrow our new acquisition 'Maria Sibylla Merian: Changing the Nature of Art and Science' to learn more about her life and scientific contributions.

We just finished a series of Library Tours for FYP students. We learned about the reference collection, the art collection, the Library of Congress Classification System, the history of King's, and we even saw some of our rare books from the Treasure Room! Students who attended were given some research tips using the Novanet catalogue and our fabulous LibGuides.
If you missed your tour and would like to book a time to ask the Librarians some questions, please drop by the University of King's College Library.

Hi everyone - during Reading Week we made a few changes to the Library! The Wi-Fi has been improved by adding access points and we've moved some furniture to create a cozier reading area by the current periodicals. Thanks to Facilities staff who helped make it happen! Let us know what you think, and welcome back for the last few weeks of term!
