Our Junior Choir had their first rehearsal last night with a wonderful group of returning and new students who are all excited to sing together! Registration is still open for any children ages 6-14 interested in joining. If you’re not sure it’s the right fit for you come to a rehearsal this month to try it out! Melody took a little break from adventuring to visit our new Music Room at ! What a beautiful space to make music together in with a fantastic new piano! We can’t wait to invite students to the new space starting tomorrow with Junior Choir!!

Only one week until the first of our fall classes start up with Junior Choir on September 16th! We are excited to welcome back previous students and meet new students!

St. George’s Song School is an inclusive choral program for students aged 6-18, open to all cultures and abilities, with ongoing registration. The program fosters creativity and musical exploration through classical choral and vocal training.

Junior choir is open to students between ages the 6 to 14. This weekly hour-long rehearsal focuses on age-appropriate vocal warm-ups and music drawn from solo voice repertoire, ranging from Baroque to more contemporary jazzy numbers. Performance opportunities for the Junior Choir include church services, the Kiwanis Music Festival and a Closing Concert that takes place in June. The Junior Choir cultivates enthusiasm, supportive listening, self confidence, and empathy for one other.

It's time for another Music Minute, where we explain a a musical concept in a minute or less! Last time we learned about half notes so now it's time to introduce quarter notes!

A quarter note looks like a filled in half note. Quarter notes represent 1 beat in music, which is half of the half note's 2 beats and a quarter of the whole note's 4 beats. Four quarter notes equal one whole note. When you write more than one quarter note you add a bar at the top to connect them. To play a half note you can press down on any piano key once. To sing a half note, hum any sound and count to 1 in your head, or tap out one beat on your leg or a table.
