Planning to play at a campfire with your friends in the future?

Get yourself ready by memorizing as many of the songs you know and want to play.

That way, if there is not enough light (typical) you won't need any sheets.

Plus, memorizing means you can focus on playing and having fun instead of reading a sheet.

The other thing you should do is practice at home with your lights dimmed or turned off.

It won't be exactly the same as a campfire but it will still help you be more prepared for the big day.

IT'S COMMON TO STRUGGLE WHEN LEARNING GUITAR, PIANO OR BASS. THE DANGER IS TO FALSELY BELIEVE YOU ARE NOT MEANT TO PLAY AT ALL. SOME STRUGGLE MORE AND SOME LESS THAN OTHERS. HOWEVER WITH TIME, EFFORT AND HELP YOU CAN LEARN.

Are you hard on yourself when learning guitar, piano or bass?

Do you get frustrated when you don't get that chord change "perfectly"?

Do you get mad when your rhythm falls apart when you try to play through a song?

I was like that too and it hurt my progress.

It associated a negative emotion and feeling to learning the instrument.

So I started to procrastinate and avoid practicing and eventually quit - more than once.

You don't want that.

Learn to appreciate the things you are doing right.

Focus on that, not on the few things you are not doing "perfectly".

Everyone learns to play guitar, piano, bass at different rates.

That's just the way it is.

We're individuals.

It doesn't matter where you fall on the "speed of learning" scale because it's not a race.

It's about where you are today and where you can be tomorrow.

If you keep learning, you will get better and better :)

WHEN YOU LEARN GUITAR, PIANO OR BASS, PROGRESS DOES NOT GO IN A STRAIGHT LINE. YOU WILL EXPERIENCE HIGHS AND LOWS ALONG THE WAY. IT MAY FEEL LIKE YOU ARE GOING BACKWARDS AT TIMES. THIS IS NORMAL. WE ALL GO THROUGH IT.
