Happy !

We’re looking back at our summer 2023 visit to the rare ECO Camp in Cambridge—and we were so happy to return again this summer!

The rare Charitable Research Reserve is a community-based land trust and environmental institute that protects more than 1,550 acres of environmentally sensitive land across Waterloo Region and Wellington County.

Through its ECO Camps, children explore forests, trails, gardens, ponds, and local wildlife while building a deeper connection to the natural world. During our visit, campers also learned about Indigenous relationships with the land, Treaties, and the meaning behind the Moccasin Identifier before creating moccasin art of their own.

It’s always wonderful to see land-based and environmental learning make space for Indigenous history, knowledge, and presence. 💙

Spaces like this bring Indigenous history and presence into the everyday landscape, giving community members and visitors a place to gather, learn, and reflect on the land beneath their feet. 💙

This week’s : Get ready for the Three Fires Homecoming Pow Wow and Traditional Gathering!

Taking place August 22 and 23, this gathering is a wonderful opportunity to experience vibrant dancing, drumming, singing, arts, food and community.

Before attending, take some time to learn about respectful Pow Wow etiquette—listen to the MC, ask permission before taking close-up photos, remember that regalia is not a costume, and support Indigenous artists and vendors.
