It’s been busy here at Natural Path Arts studio. Yesterday I cohosted a ‘Death Cafe and Clay’ with Marnie McCourty, death doula and excellent human. Beautiful sharing and creating ceramic pieces to honour loved ones who have passed.

Today I hosted a holiday present making workshop with a small group of kiddos. These guys wanted to make presents for their families. So we got to work making classic Waldorf window stars, pine cone gnomes, colourful fairy doors and tiny tree ornaments. I love making art with kids, and I love these gift making sessions. If you want your kids to get in on this and give them a opportunity to make their own gifts give me a message to book. Spots are filling up but I can take a few more groups over the next two weekends.

Children can choose between different crafts including sewing, paper crafts, painting, needle felting and of course clay!

My studio is all ready for the new school year. Pictures coming soon but for now enjoy this photo, complete with my new business cards and some of my pottery. The bowl on the left is full of cool stickers for my students. (Who doesn’t love a cool stickers?). The critters are my latest obsession.

Kids (and adults) need to use their hands to create beautiful things. I love working with clay for a lot of reasons. It’s a great art form for all ages and kids love it. Clay great for so many reasons. Creating with clay develops focus, planning skills and creativity. It also requires the use of the whole hand developing strength and control of the hand muscles. So important for so many things including writing. Don’t forget it gos both ways. The brain informs the hand and the hand informs the brain.

Come 06 glaze firing. Waited for the heat wave to pass before I fired this load up. This is mostly my students work but I have a few wheel thrown bowls in here that are mine. Excited to see how this load turns out.

Some of this things I use in my educational support sessions with kids. Lots of games and movement to connect the mind and body and ready the student for new learning. I just completed my Bal-a-Vis-X Level A training last week. It was an incredible experience and I’m excited to share all I’ve learned with my students. I have long used ball bouncing and bean bag passing games and exercises to support vestibular and proprioception development (or the sense of balance and movement.) but this training was next level. Im very grateful for this tool in my tool box.
