June 21, 2026, is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

We honour and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

We’ve put together a collection of resources to support learning and reflection. We’re also highlighting a powerful Cree language learning app from the Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council Education Authority, featuring over 900 words and phrases spoken by Cree Elders and rooted in land-based learning.

Yesterday, standing in the sun with her family and friends, we were honoured to dedicate a Buddy Bench to Alexander Forbes student Karissa Sitko. Karissa expressed several times when she was a student at Forbes that she would love to see a bench added to our playground.
We will be creating a book for the family to commemorate the day and the bench. If you took any pictures that you are willing to share, please send them to [email protected] or post them below.

📌 Reminder
June 5, 2026, is a Professional Learning (PL) Day — no classes will be held for students. PL days support GPPSD staff in their ongoing professional growth and school improvement efforts, helping every student succeed.
Classes resume on Monday, June 8, 2026.

This morning, students participated in our monthly APPLE Schools Taste Test. This month, students enjoyed oatmeal with toppings including honey, pumpkin seeds, and dried cranberries.

The goal of our taste tests is to expose students to new, healthy foods, or new ways of preparing previously enjoyed foods.

Thank you to Ms. Jen, our APPLE Schools School Health Coordinator, for organizing and preparing the food for our students to enjoy!

Last week, our Grade 8 students celebrated the conclusion of their campaign to become Prime Minister. Over the past several weeks, students researched issues, wrote persuasive speeches, created posters, and presented their speeches. Finally, the votes were tabulated, and the winners were announced. Thank you to all our students for their hard. Thank you to Miss Kiki for providing such a wonderful learning experience!

Join us tomorrow at Muskoseepi Park Amphitheatre at 6:30PM for an evening of music in the park with performances by student bands, choirs and orchestras!
