What does customer service mean to you?

Would you spend 1.5 hours a week for 5 weeks with a 20 year old explaining finances and building them a life plan. Those are just the hours at the kitchen table. There are hours put in quietly pulling the pieces together in a way this soldier can understand.

This is what I’ve been doing with a young soldier that just signed a contract to join the non-commissioned ranks regular forces.

We put together a life plan with short, medium and long term goals. We talked about how it’s a breathing document and will require adjustments to move with the flow of life. This is a foundation.

We ran through home ownership, credit rating, understanding the buckets for investments, life insurance and so much more.

The soldier is young lives at home. He is serving his country and I’m serving him.

Next week we meet again to finalize the accounts and asset allocations.

Someone told me the effort doesn’t justify the payout.

For me it’s more than money, it’s setting this young person up for financial success.

Is this customer service or is it going overboard?

Tell me what you think.

Kitchen Tables and Light Bulbs: Why I Do What I Do

Last night, I found myself sitting at a kitchen table with an incredible young man. He is currently in the Reserves and was just accepted into the Regular Force. He was also completely set on buying a brand-new Mustang.

We sat down and had a real conversation about his money. We walked through the Rule of 72, looked at how different "buckets" work—like the First Home Savings Account (FHSA) and TFSAs—and mapped out his short-term versus long-term goals. Right now, he is still living at home, which gives him a massive head start if he plays his cards right.

By the end of our chat, the Mustang was off the table. Instead, he looked at me and said he wants to map out his financial future. He didn’t use those exact words. I ad-libbed a bit here. Do you know any young people who talk like that? I don’t! Oh boy soon to be grandma here. 🤣 I digress.

To say I am excited for him is an understatement. Next week, I will be heading back to his kitchen table with his official financial roadmap in hand.

This is exactly what gets me out of bed in the morning. The sheer passion of helping people, seeing those light bulbs go off, and serving the incredible community of those who serve us. 🇨🇦

The future is bright for this young member, and I am so honored to help him build it.

The "Real Life" Balance

I hope everyone had an incredible Mother's Day!!
Life has a way of throwing a curveball right when you’re in the middle of a sprint.

Between a busy family schedule and the flu hitting our household incredibly hard recently, I’ve had to take a step back from the digital world to focus on what matters most: recovery and home.

But even in the "quiet" moments between fever breaks, the wheels haven't stopped turning. I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes developing new Financial Education Modules specifically designed for our military families and veteran community.

As we all know, balance isn't something you find; it's something you create. I’m pushing to have these workshops ready for a Fall 2026 launch—or even sooner if I can manage it!

In the meantime, please enjoy this dose of "post-flu" serotonin. Daisy just got back from the groomers, and I think she’s feeling much better than the rest of us! 🎀

Stay tuned for more updates soon.

🐾 Meet Daisy: My Chief Reality Officer

If you’re wondering why Daisy is sitting like she’s about to give me a performance review, it’s because we’re talking about the "honesty gap" in financial social media. 🐕

Specifically, the noise around Segregated Funds.

The Real Talk on Guarantees

Online creators love to point out that the insurance "safety net" is expensive. And they’re right—statistically, most people will never actually "need" the 75% or 100% maturity guarantee because the market historically trends up.

However, statistics don't account for how you feel.

There are simply some people who want their money to grow without ever risking their initial investment. For those who need to know their "floor" is secure, segregated funds are a fantastic fit. The guarantee isn't just a fee—it's the price of sleeping soundly regardless of what the headlines say.

Beyond the Market: The "Contractual Math"

As a licensed insurance broker in New Brunswick and Ontario, I look at the legal benefits a standard investment simply can't provide:

The Creditor Shield: For business owners and professionals, this is a legal "fortress." But remember: who you name as a beneficiary matters. To trigger protection, you generally need to name a "family class" member (spouse, child, or parent).

Probate Bypass: This is the feature people actually use most. It moves money to your family privately and quickly, skipping the public court process.

The 2026 Shift

The "high fee" argument is losing its teeth. With the July 2026 tax changes making mutual fund trailers subject to GST/HST, the cost of advice is leveling out. Soon, new transparency rules will show every dollar spent, making the built-in protections of an insurance contract look a lot more strategic.

The Bottom Line

Insurance wrappers aren't for everyone. If you have a 30-year horizon and nerves of steel, you might not need the safety floor. But if you’re protecting a legacy, a business, or simply your own peace of mind, it’s a tool that does what other products can't.

If you want a someone who gives it to you straight (and a dog who listens with very serious ears), let’s chat.

When was the last time you checked your beneficiary designations? It might be the most important "insurance" move you make this year.
