Play Provocation: Creating with Fall Colors, Playdough, and Natural Loose Parts

Building on yesterday's outdoor activity, a play provocation using playdough and natural loose parts, such as leaves, twigs, pinecones, was set up today. Their imagination and creativity truly sparkled as they transformed these materials into pretend pizzas, cookies, and cakes.

•FALL MARKET AND CAFÉ INVITATION-TO-PLAY•

Our outdoor Fall Market and Café invitation-to-play was a huge hit! After initiating the play with books about fall, pumpkins, and Thanksgiving, the children couldn't wait to dive in. They instantly took on roles as shop owners, café staff, and customers, taking turns and sharing responsibilities naturally. The play experience sparked rich, spontaneous play, and kept everyone fully engaged all morning long.

Children demonstrated their dispositions to learn — participating, playing, seeking, persisting, and caring. The play experience promoted holistic development by enriching fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving abilities, language and literacy, independence, cooperative play.

I’m excited to see how they build upon this play experience in the coming days!

Today, we honour residential school survivors, their families and communities, and remember the children who never returned home.

As an organization that works alongside early childhood educators, we know that caring for children means creating spaces where every child is valued, respected, and able to grow with a strong sense of belonging.

Truth and reconciliation calls us to look honestly at Canada’s history, listen to Indigenous voices and lived experiences, and consider how our work can contribute to relationships built on respect, dignity, and understanding.

Reconciliation is an ongoing responsibility that asks us to keep learning, reflecting, and taking action.

Today, and throughout the year, we encourage early childhood educators and members of our community to make space for learning, to seek out Indigenous perspectives and resources, and to consider how reconciliation can be meaningfully woven into our relationships, environments, and everyday practice.

🦷🪥Educational Visit: Learning Dental Care with Dental Hygiene Express

We had a special visit from Dental Hygiene Express today! The children stepped inside the mobile van, where the dental hygienist led an engaging presentation and hands-on activities to teach proper brushing and flossing. Everyone even got to try out the dental chair and take home a free toothbrush and floss set.

We honored Orange Shirt Day today with a fun joint celebration alongside other dayhomes. We gathered around a pretend campfire for circle time, read the book “Today is Orange Shirt Day," sang campfire songs, played "Ring Around the Rosie," and enjoyed lots of playtime together.
