Chiasmus in the Bible. Chiasmus is a poetic device that uses an ABC-CBA structure. Not only do the first three verses of Isaiah 60 contain chiasmus, but theologians have suggested that the entire chapter may be chiastic. Knowing more about the poetry of the passage helps explain why these verses are so memorable. There's a good reason why they're included in Handel's Messiah!.
