Leather and Lace is a shared learning journey, valuing education, exploration, teaching, exchanging, creating unity, and fostering community.
Since beginning my leather and bootblack journeys, I felt called to create a consistent event for leather folx to meet and develop connections. I hope Leather & Lace will be a shared experience of learning, exploring, teaching, exchanging, creating unity, fostering community, and fund raising in a safe(r) space open to all (18+). The only prerequisites to attend are 18+, interest, willingness to l
earn, and respect. Many of the chosen topics stand to be emotional and/or controversial, thus in order to have a successful event, I need everyone to respect others’ vulnerable space. My venue choice is very deliberate. Prioritizing my goals of reaching and engaging as many people in our community as possible, means finding as neutral ground as possible. Building rapport with a local business - which has a history of supporting leather culture, and being neutral ground to eliminate the politics of space avoidance are extremely important. Evolution Wonderlounge is an amazing establishment, willing to allow Leather & Lace to be genuine and authentic to our community. Event Details:
1.Where: Evolution Wonderlounge 10220 103 st // Skype available
2.When: Third Wednesday monthly // 18:30-21:30
3.Cost: By donation
4.Who: Everyone who is 18+
Event Goals:
1.Education about leather history, culture, and events which have impacted leather identifying people.
2.Discussion about the surrounding topic through experience, knowledge, and respecting diversity.
3.Support by allowing folx the space to share their stories and experiences, listening with the intent of holding space, empathizing with struggles and celebrations.
4.Fund Raising for current and future Western Canadian Bootblack events, as well as to aid travel funds for my title year.
5.Accessibility is a an ongoing project. All folx 18+ are welcome to attend. I’m starting to use platforms like Skype to connect our local community with fantastic speakers and presenters. Further utilizing Skype by encouraging rural/remote/differently abled/smaller communities to conference call and have the opportunity to join in our discussion.
