Sometimes It’s Just Too Much…
As you might know, over the last few months I have been a guest on several podcasts with amazing people around the world — Australia, South Africa, England (as of late), the States, as well as here in Canada.
In September, I did a podcast with fellow Canadian Julian from Mind Triumph, which was just so enlightening for both of us. I’ll post the episode when it’s ready! I know you will love Julian and his very valuable work on the mind and “the talker in you.”
And a couple of days ago, I went to Liverpool virtually and found myself in the best company with Suzy Rowlands on Suzy Exhales, having a wee chin wag with Suzy about:
'Singing Threatens the System That Keeps Us Small
Anna Beaumont on the selves hiding in our voices, singing, vulnerability and becoming fully expressed.'

As I’ve been going through my own learning curve with these podcasts, I’ve been discovering what I’m comfortable with — and what I’m not comfortable speaking about anymore.
I was telling a friend, after she asked me, “How are the podcasts going?”, that I was so tired of telling my story and talking about myself!
I needed that moment to be able to hear a part of me that was on the verge of creating a boundary.
My annoyance, irritation and frustration were all telling me that I was doing something that wasn’t working for me anymore.
And after making it about the baby and the bathwater, I realized that what I don’t enjoy anymore is going backwards and rehashing.
Now, in these podcasts, they often really want you to dig in and get mucky (not all of them!) so there is a story to tell — from bad to good, from broken to brave, from struggle to triumph.
I get it.
And it’s my job to decide what I want to share and what feels like too much.
And yes, that is my story. It’s a work in progress, as we all are.
But there was a line of questioning — and some of my answers — that was crossing a boundary in me that I wasn’t willing to cross anymore!
And so, in the spirit of “Anna has her voice,” I went back and said to a few of them - 3 to be precise and not all at once!:
“Thank you, but I’d rather you not put that podcast out there in the world. Thank you very much.”
And you know what?
That felt good.
In finding this new edge in myself, I’ve discovered a beautiful balance — honouring myself and my past, while no longer exposing my personal energy in that way.
Maybe that’s another part of finding your natural voice.
Knowing when to speak.
Knowing what to share.
And knowing when to say:
That’s enough.
A poem by Rumi:
“Darkness is your candle, your boundaries are your quest.”
Indeed.
