Great conversations and community connections at the Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO) General Meeting on Friday, May 15 at Bison Lodge.
It was a pleasure hearing from Mayor Andrew Knack and engaging with leaders, organizations, and community members working to strengthen Edmonton’s nonprofit and voluntary sector.
Thank you to ECVO for bringing everyone together for an inspiring and collaborative afternoon.
International and Heritage Languages Association
Residing on Treaty 6 since 1977, IHLA has been an organization dedicated to promoting heritage and second language education in Alberta.
We are proud to support local community schools. The International and Heritage Languages Association acknowledges that we reside and work on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting ground and travelling route for the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene and Nakota Sioux; including many other Indigenous Nations, and Inuit who have been a part of this land since time immemorial.

We are honoured to receive recognition from the Mayor’s Office and the Premier’s Office for our Mother Language Day 2026 Publication, affirming IHLA’s role in shaping the cultural and educational fabric of our city and province.
For over 45 years, IHLA has been rooted in grassroots action, a united chain of member schools, educators, and families committed to keeping heritage language, culture, and identity alive and relevant.
The MLD 2026 Publication continues this journey, building on the momentum of our flagship event on February 21, 2026, at West Meadows Baptist Church. It showcases the voices, projects, and lived experiences of our member schools in action.
This is more than a publication; it is a living record of who we are: grounded in community, strengthened by unity, and moving forward together.
