Did someone say, 'I want to join a life-changing wellness retreat that's actually worth my time and money'? 🌿

Well, well, well. You asked for it, and we're delivering! Join us October 23rd to 25th in beautiful Duncan, BC, for our 3-day Eat Real to Heal Retreat!

Who's excited? 😍

In a world that never stops, where everything moves at lightning speed, there's something precious we often forget to give ourselves: time. Time to pause, learn, and actually take care of our health instead of just managing it.

We invite you to take a deep breath and consider this: what if three days could change how you understand your own body, for good?

At our 3-day Eat Real to Heal Retreat, we're teaching you the real, science-backed tools behind reversing chronic disease. No fluff, no fad diets, just real food and real answers.

We'll guide you through food-as-medicine lectures, hands-on cooking classes, and real conversations about liver health, bloodwork, and what your body actually needs to heal, all alongside a small community of people who understand exactly what you're going through.

We can't wait to welcome you to Duncan this fall for a life-changing, transformative experience! 💚

🌱 WE'RE HIRING: RAW VEGAN DESSERT MAKER
The Root Organic Cafe + Chronic Disease Reversal Centre | Duncan, BC
Are you the kind of person who loves making things beautiful, precise and just right?
The Root is looking for a Raw Vegan Dessert Maker to take ownership of our house-made dessert production. 8 - 12 hours a week to start.
This isn't traditional baking.
Our desserts are organic, plant-based and gluten-free, made from whole-food ingredients like nuts, seeds, dates, cacao, coconut, fruit and maple syrup. Think raw cheesecakes, chocolate avocado tarts, caramel date squares, brownies, cookies, power bites and other beautiful plant-based creations.
Because raw desserts aren't forgiving in the same way conventional baking can be, we're looking for someone who is methodical, detail-oriented and excellent at following a process. Consistency matters: the cheesecake you make today should look, taste and portion the same as the one you make next week.
You might be perfect for this role if you:
- Have an exceptional eye for detail, consistency and presentation
- Love following recipes, systems and processes precisely
- Are organized, clean and methodical in the kitchen
- Can weigh, measure, portion and document accurately
- Are comfortable working independently and unsupervised
- Take pride in leaving a workspace immaculate
- Understand—or are excited to learn—raw, vegan and gluten-free food preparation
- Can manage your own production list and make sure the dessert case stays stocked
- Are dependable and take ownership of your work
Raw-vegan dessert experience would be wonderful, but we're also interested in the right person with strong food-preparation, pastry, culinary or dessert-making skills who is excited to learn our recipes and processes.
One of the best parts?
The schedule can be flexible.
This is primarily a production role, so much of the work does not need to happen while the café is busy. Once trained, you may be able to choose production hours that work well for you—including early mornings, evenings or after the café closes.
If you're someone who actually enjoys putting on some music, getting into the zone and methodically creating beautiful food on your own, this could be a pretty great job.
Interested?
Send us a little bit about yourself, your relevant experience and why this role interests you. Photos of desserts or food you've made are very welcome.

Duncan… The Root is taking shape. 🌱
Every day, this space looks a little less like a construction site and a little more like The Root Organic Cafe we’ve been imagining.
Counters are going in. Plumbing and electrical are coming together. The kitchen is taking shape. And all those little details we’ve been dreaming about are finally becoming real.
We can't wait to open the doors and welcome you in for organic, plant-based food, great coffee, community, and a whole new approach to health and wellness in downtown Duncan.
And we have to give some love to the local trades helping us bring it all to life. 🔨⚡️🔧
Electric: Chris Adams at Sparky Adams Electric

Thank you for helping us build The Root — quite literally. ❤️
We’re getting close, Duncan.

Meet red cabbage. 💜

One of the least glamorous vegetables in the grocery store… until you actually look at it.

Inside this humble vegetable is an extraordinary architecture of colour, fibre and naturally occurring plant compounds.

That deep purple? It comes from anthocyanins — the same family of phytonutrients responsible for the rich reds, blues and purples in foods like blueberries, blackberries and purple grapes.

Red cabbage is also a cruciferous vegetable, providing glucosinolates, vitamin C, vitamin K and fibre — including the kind of fibre our gut microbes love.

At The Root, we believe food doesn't have to be complicated to be powerful.

Sometimes you just have to look closer.

🌱 Whole food.
🌱 Grown from the earth.
🌱 Beautifully complex.

Come eat with us at The Root Cafe (opening soon) — and learn with us at The Root Chronic Disease Reversal Centre.
