We're changing it up from last year. We will still being offering cold brew coffee but now we're also selling a selection of beautiful handmade sewn goods, and a new fun idea to raise some money... a cake walk! Whether you're stopping by for a treat, trying your luck in the cake walk, or simply visiting with friends and neighbours, we'd love to see you there.

There are lots of ways you can help make the event a success:

- Bake a cake or your favourite baked good for our cake walk.
- Join in the cake walk and take home a delicious homemade treat.
Contribute handmade items to be sold at the market if you're a maker or crafter.
- Stop by and show your support!

Every coffee purchased, every cake walk ticket, and every visit helps.

Are you an energetic, caring, and creative Early Childhood Educator who believes that every day should include a little magic and a lot of laughter? Blackberry Lane Children's Center is a small, community oriented centre where children explore, friendships bloom and imaginations soar. Our centre is a warm, joyful space, purpose-built in 2021, where children thrive and educators are valued. Join our collaborative team and help us nurture young minds in alignment with our mission, vision, and core values.

About Blackberry Lane:
-We currently run 3 Multi-Age Programs.
-We believe in small groups, big adventures, and strong relationships, operating with enhanced staffing ratios to ensure a supported work environment .

Qualifications:
- A current ECE or ECEA Certification
- Experience leading groups of children ages 0-12
- Knowledge of the BC Early Learning Framework and BC Child Care Licensing Regulations
- A valid First Aid Certificate
- pro active communication skills and a team player
- Passion for outdoor learning and community driven

Additional Details:
- Permanent position
-Full-time or Part-time
-$25 per hour starting wage for ECE’S
- $6/hour additional Early Childhood Educator Wage Enhancement (ECEWE) for ECEs
- Schedule: Monday to Friday , excluding stat holidays
- Paid Professional Development
- 4% annual Vacation Pay

Our location on Denman Island in the Comox Valley, B.C. requires that applicants have secure housing on Denman Island or have reliable transportation to and from the Buckley Bay ferry terminal as the BC Transit system does not have a schedule that aligns with the required ferries.

We're so close... and yet still a little way to go! 💛 A huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far—we're now just over halfway to our goal!

Our wonderful teacher, Susanna, is heading to the UK to celebrate a very special milestone as her once-little human graduates with a master's degree. We'd love nothing more than to have this new stroller waiting for her when she returns on July 13.

We are happy to welcome Aerie Thomas, commonly known as Basil on the island, as our new Centre Manager! After working as an educator with the center for many years, they are excited to be joining the amazing team at Blackberry Lane in this new capacity. Basil is a liscensed Early Childhood Educator with nine years of experience working with children on Denman Island. They are also an avid singer, songwriter, and performing artist. We are wishing Kathryn well as she takes medical leave and look forward to seeing her back in a couple of months as our Center's Executive Director.

That said… babies come with stuff 😄
And our sweet, licensed non-profit daycare is currently short on funds for baby essentials.

If you’re able, please consider donating a few dollars to help us stock up on baby essentials.

We’re thrilled to welcome a bunch of new little babies and toddlers into our care, and an incredible full-time ECE with Infant & Toddler certification to care for them.

From those very first tiny wiggles to the moment your little one starts moving with confidence, music has a way of holding it all together. 💛
Music and movement aren’t just “extras” for infants. They’re how babies make sense of the world. Each bounce supports motor skills. Every repeated lyric builds the foundations of language. The rhythm, the beat, the shared smiles; they help regulate little nervous systems while reminding caregivers that connection matters just as much as milestones.

And here’s the beautiful part: you don’t need to do it perfectly. You don’t need to sing in tune or know all the actions. Your presence is the magic. When you move together, laugh together, and sing together, you’re building body confidence, emotional safety, and joyful memories; for both of you.
