Serving School District 59 since 2010 I believe in public education. I believe that children have a right to be educated.
I believe that public education provides each child in our district with the opportunity to succeed. I believe that trustees play an integral role in delivering that education in a way that reflects local values and priorities. I am a wife and stay at home mother with 2 children attending École Frank Ross Elementary. I graduated from SPSS in Dawson Creek in 1999 and completed a BSc in Psychology t
hrough UNBC. I have learned many skills during my degree that add to my efficacy on the school board such as critical thinking, time management, communication and leadership. But what I mostly take away from my undergraduate career is that learning is for life, not just the next grade. After over 4 years experience on the school board, I am confident in my abilities to advocate for lifelong learning for all students in our district. I have served on the school board for 4.5 years, having won a by-election in 2010. In my role as a Trustee, I have served 3 years as Vice-chair of the SD 59 Board of Education. I am also the policy committee chair for SD 59 and have served 3 years on the executive of the Northern Interior Branch of the BC School Trustees Association. What this experience has taught me, is that education must continue to move forward, to change, to be fluid and progressive as we train our students to live a world filled with technology and advancement. As a school board trustee I will continue to advocate for providing students with a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy as well as teaching our students "21st Century skills" such as curiosity, critical thinking, empathy, collaboration and confidence. As a trustee I have a duty to represent parent and other community member’s interests in education. I regularly attend PAC and DPAC meetings and invite community members to share their perspectives through these and other platforms, such as social media. I am also available as a resource to guide parents to district personnel and services that can address specific needs within the system. If re-elected, I will continue to advocate for a public education system that provides teachers and schools with the support and flexibility to personalize learning for each and every student. I will advocate for an education system that helps students to discover their own strengths, a system that teaches strong literacy and numeracy skills, from Kindergarten to grade 12, a system that encourages curiosity, growth, confidence and success for all students.
