And the moment it’s explained properly — simply, practically, repeatedly — it clicks.

That’s when everything changes.

That’s when confidence shows up.
That’s when decisions get better.
That’s when independence actually becomes possible.

Most parents are still solving the wrong problem.

They think their child needs more money.

What they actually need…
is to know what to do with it.

Because right now?

Your child might be:
• earning money… but it disappears
• spending without a plan
• relying on you when things go wrong

Not because they’re careless.
Because no one ever showed them how money actually works.

And this doesn’t magically fix itself with age.

I’ve now worked with enough young adults to see the pattern clearly:

👉 The ones who learn the system early… take ownership and start building immediately
👉 The ones who don’t… stay stuck, even with support

That’s why I’m building something bigger.

So ready to escape this never-ending snow for Spring Break!
Here’s how we prepare our 9-year-old to manage money on vacation👇

Before we go:
We count what’s in his spend jar and he chooses how much to bring.

We exchange it into local money 💱
Same value… just different numbers.

Then we set the rules:
This trip = mom & dad’s treat
Food, activities, hotels, essentials = covered

Your money = for things you really want

When it’s gone… it’s gone. No top-ups.

We keep it safe (wallet → mom’s bag)

And we expect mistakes. That’s part of learning.
No drama. We talk about it at the next money review and make a better plan next time.

Then we shake hands 🤝

Pro tip (optional exception)
If they find something they’ve been saving for and it’s a better deal than at home, we can step in — but only as a loan, not a gift.

We buy it and hold onto it.
They don’t get it until they’ve paid us back.

That way they learn:
👉 good deals matter
👉 planning ahead matters
👉 borrowing = responsibility & commitment

Clear rules = better choices + fewer meltdowns 😉

Young brains learn through concrete, physical experience.

They learn by connecting what they see and physically experience with how things work.

To help them understand money, we need to make it real to them before age 12.

Give your kids CASH.

Let them use it and decide for themselves. The physical consequences of their experience will teach them valuable lessons for life. Lessons they cannot feel through an app.

Don’t let the one-time inconvenience of getting cash and making change stop you from giving your kids this essential practice and foundation.

Skipping cash is like building a house without a foundation.

Before age 12, kids need to physically experience money for it to actually stick. Not an app. Not a number on a screen. Real bills in their hands.

Don’t let the “inconvenience” excuse stop you from starting? Here’s all you do:

Go once. Pull a full month of allowance in cash. Pay it out weekly from a drawer. When they want something online — they pay YOU cash, you use your card. The cash replenishes itself. The system runs on autopilot.

There’s nothing complicated about this. There’s nothing better you can do for your kid right now.

Make money real first. Everything else builds on that.
