I teach stellar prenatal classes that leave you feeling CONFIDENT + PREPARED for birth! Group and Private classes available throughout the East Kootenays!

My darlings, I need to apologize! My website is haywire and there have been a great many of you sending in prenatal request forms that for many months seem to have been disappearing in to the internet ether. So I am very sorry if your due date has come n’ gone and your baby has already arrived. I’m sorry I missed you. But there are many more of you who will be getting emails from me this week to book you in! 🤦🏼‍♀️

The inquiry request form error is corrected, the security aspect of the website still plagues me, but I am working on it.
I’m so much better at birth stuff than tech stuff! I promise! 😂😅

Hey darlings,
If you’re local to me here in the East Kootenays and have a clinic, office or public bulletin board -lemme know I’m ready to hang posters! 😉

Hello everyone, I’ve been on a fairly long break from birth work but I’ve already taught a class this year so why don’t we keep it rolling! I would love to hear from you if you’re interested in prenatal classes. My classes are fun, intimate and cater to your concerns or health needs. I promise you & your partner will be feeling prepared for when the big day arrives.

Why yes I do still exist. 2025 has been a wild ride, this week feels like the first calm one in months so I’m doing some business housekeeping, updates to the website and admin.

If you’re interested in prenatal classes, I’m pretty free through the summer months so hit me up.

Hey Kimberley folks!

I’m really excited to share that I’m part of the crew of people who have been reimagining Kimberley’s Youth Centre. Last week we had our first Little Embers drop in morning. Parents and kiddos 0-5 came out had snacks and chatted, it was a huge success. We’re offering another drop in this week on Thursday, no cost. Snacks and warm drinks will be available Ms Jodi, Lisa and I will be hosting. Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces.

For those with older children Spark Youth Centre is open for afternoon drop in after school 3-6pm, Monday - Thursday. 250 Howard st, Kimberley

And yes, a pregnancy outreach has already been suggested I’ll be brainstorming over our winter break. ☺️

I had another fantastic prenatal class last week with a couple due in the new year. I may have an office job these days to help pay the bills but talking babies and birth will always be in my top 5!

If you’re expecting in 2025, send me a message and let’s get you Confident & Prepared for birth!

“Research has shown that new mothers deal better with stress and are even able to see their babies in a more positive light when they receive support from friends and family. They have higher self-esteem, feel more confident, and are more resourceful when it comes to problem-solving around raising their” -Kate Northrup

Asking for and receiving help is a topic I go over in the postpartum portion of prenatal classes. Our society holds people who have it ‘together’ in high regard, often making it difficult to ask for help. And a new baby makes it challenging to know what you even need help with. So let’s talk about it, and get you surrounded by a circle of support ahead of time.

I’m so very excited to be in a place where I can return to teaching prenatal classes! It brings me such joy to share all my experiences and help couples prepare for birth. My calendar is pretty open thus far but sign up so you don’t leave it too close to your due date. 😉

Hey folks! Been a long while but thought I’d come back with a splash and some exciting news.

After two years of challenges and surgical healing in my household, things are beginning to settle down and I’ve decided to start teaching classes again! 🥳

I’m open to teaching private classes in your home in the Kimberley + Cranbrook area. Group classes will hopefully start in 2025 at College of the Rockies! Details are still being worked out with the college. So stay tuned.

I absolutely love teaching, I’m very much looking forward to connecting with new families in the coming year. Share the news with your friends 😃

Website is still under construction so for the moment contact me thru dm or email darla.sparrow@ gmail.com
I’m locked out of Facebook so ig or email really is best to get ahold of me for now.

There’s a couple things most birth workers really need.

Caffeine + Support
☕️ + 👭

Birth work takes a lot of stamina, endurance, love, patience, empathy and a strong cup of caffeine ☕️

The hours can be gruelling when attending births, especially back to back births.
But I actually don’t mean at births, I don’t drink coffee (eww) and I didn’t start drinking tea until I was winding down my doula career a couple years ago.

No, what I’m talking about is coffee with your support team, your colleague, your friend.

Birth work can be lonely, even though it’s also often the most ecstatic experience. If you’re going through those hills and valleys alone as a birth worker I strongly suggest you find yourself a trusted friend in the field you can call on for support. Either to help you debrief a difficult birth or to turn to for encouragement, “What would you do?” How do you approach this scenario?”

I had tea with my doula friend today, it was so good to hear how she was doing after a busy month of births and to chat and feel totally understood, as people who hold space in the birth world.

🤩 Another couple feeling more ready to welcome their baby after tonights prenatal class.

I’ve had a few inquiries lately about group classes. As much as I like teaching groups, at the moment I’m continuing to only offer private in home classes. With covid cancellations still an issue, my work schedule to work around and a busy and changing family life, this is what’s working best so that I can still offer classes.

I’m looking forward to all the couples I’ll be teaching this summer who are due this autumn. ☀️🍂
