The shift in a birthing couples confidence and connection is such a special time to be a part of. Prenatal classes aren’t just learning about labour, it’s building yet another layer of trust in your relationship and within yourself. A massive change is about to take place and these hours spent with intention can bolster you for the weeks and months to come.

Benefits of prenatal education classes have included increased confidence for labor and birth among women who attended prenatal classes, higher likelihood of breastfeeding, improved communication between childbearing women and their maternity care providers, decreased need for analgesic medication in labor, and increased satisfaction with birth (Chalmers & Kingston, 2009; Enkin et al., 2000).

Hey ya’ll! It’s been a minute since I was on any social media. I think I’m coming to terms with the fact that I am just terrible at remembering to post to say “hey I exist, remember me? I teach wonderful prenatal classes. My name is Darla. I live just outside of Kimberley BC and if you’re pregnant, you should send me a message and book in”.
Anyways here’s a picture of my face, cause I’m sure the algorithm likes that. Yeah, it’s been a bananas summer between wildfires, moving house & renovating but things are good. I’d love to teach you a class, if you’re in the area give me a shout. It’s always an honour to meet new couples and share with them the ridiculous amount of birth knowledge, I contain in my brain and soul. Alright see you around sunshine! ☀️

Having freedom of movement during labour is one of the best things you can do to cope through contractions.
Being upright helps by allowing gravity to do its job. Squatting or lunging opens the pelvis letting baby move down and further engage. Follow your instincts as each wave arrives and you’ll find your rhythm.

Positions are something I go over with all my clients, I really believe that birthing people will instinctively know what position works best for them moment to moment in labour.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The great thing about giving them a try with your birth team before hand is that sometimes we might suggest a different position in the midst of labour and it’s better to not disturb you and explain what we want you to try. Going over them ahead of time means you have a memory of it and can easily assume the position. We’re never instructing you like a drill sergeant, changing position with each contraction. No way, we’ll follow your lead and if things need a little shake up then we have practice under our belt to help you better.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

My darlings, I need to apologize! My website is haywire and there have been a great many of you sending in prenatal request forms that for many months seem to have been disappearing in to the internet ether. So I am very sorry if your due date has come n’ gone and your baby has already arrived. I’m sorry I missed you. But there are many more of you who will be getting emails from me this week to book you in! 🤦🏼‍♀️

The inquiry request form error is corrected, the security aspect of the website still plagues me, but I am working on it.
I’m so much better at birth stuff than tech stuff! I promise! 😂😅
