Our second Featured Artist for July is the first in our Featured Artist program to hang their work on our walls for a second time!

Say hello to Marlene McWilliam!

"I was born in Cornwall but have lived most of my adult life in Ottawa. I returned to Cornwall following my retirement to be close to family. Although I enjoy painting many different subjects in watercolour, acrylic, and egg tempera, my passion is centered on sacred art (icons), birds, and panoramas; I love the challenge of working with so many variations of colour, techniques, and in trying to capture the detailed work which you will find in most of my canvases."

We're shaking things up this month with TWO featured artists!

Say hello to our first Featured Artist for July, Elaine Arkwright!

Elaine is an artist specializing in Batik, an ancient art form, rooted in the intricate dance of dyes and wax.

"My earliest awareness of art came during a childhood visit with my Aunt Mary, an accomplished artist who worked in various mediums. However, it wasn't until 2003 that my interest in art was reignited. Attending monthly Art Walks in my community, where local artists showcased their work, gave me the chance to meet them and learn more about their styles. Inspired by these encounters, I took the opportunity to attend watercolour workshops, deepening my understanding of artistic techniques.A few years later, this move led me to reconnect with my cousin Jenn, who introduced me to Batik.
She showed me how to achieve the deep, rich colours that define this medium and guided me through the fascinating interplay of dyes and wax. Drawing from my watercolour experience, I began incorporating those techniques into Batik, developing my own unique style.
Over the years, I have participated in several juried shows and have been honoured with awards for my Batik work. Many of my pieces have been sold, and some proudly reside in the homes of family and friends."

Hey, that's us!

A big thank you to all who came out to support our fundraising efforts in support of BGC Cornwall/SDG! We had such a wonderful day and were blown away by the talent shown by both our students and the St.Joseph's Catholic Secondary School Choir!

Applause for all!

Young performers from Seaway Valley Music Academy and the St. Joseph's Catholic Secondary School Choir recently took the stage for a benefit concert supporting BGC Cornwall/SDG. The Broadway-themed performance featured vocal soloists and choirs performing songs from popular musicals while raising funds to help support programs and services for children and youth across Cornwall and SDG.
