First POCUS scan event with our new machines purchased by the Western Health Foundation! R1 and R2 residents had the opportunity to do scanning under the guidance of Dr. Brittany Bolt, ER physician and WestFam Alum. Huge thank you to our volunteer patients!

Our newest WestFam residents are settling into life here on the West Coast. Last evening they were treated to a complimentary tour of the city and surrounding area courtesy of Rugged Edge! Thank you Melissa and Craig! We love this new annual tradition. Having the warm welcome and support of local businesses can have a meaningful impact on our recruitment and retention efforts for these family docs!

We’re so sad to say goodbye to such a great group of residents! These new family doctors have made an incredible impact on health care in Newfoundland throughout their time as resident doctors. The West Coast has been truly fortunate to have you caring for our patients and communities!

We officially have two point of care ultrasound machines and two portable butterfly probes and tablets available to us for educational purposes that were graciously provided by the Western Regional Hospital Foundation. We are so thankful for this opportunity to advance our PoCUS skills and to ultimately improve patient care!🩺

Another fabulously successful WestFam workshop!

Our residents enjoyed a full day of teaching around a variety of topics with our incredible faculty on Friday! A huge thank you to our colleagues and mentors for giving of your time.

On Saturday our crew travelled to Norris Point where they enjoyed a morning on the water kayaking with Gros Morne Adventures in beautiful Bonne Bay. They then refuelled with a delicious lunch of Lobster Rolls from the Lobster King himself, Chef Jeremy Charles.

I’m Hannah- the last of the R1 (almost R2🙈) group.

I’ve had the chance to experience life all across the province. I was born and raised in Gander, moved to St. John’s for my B.Sc and MPH, spent three years working in Corner Brook, then moved back to St. John’s for medical school!

Having lived on the west coast, I knew I wanted to come back. My clerkship experiences and the incredible sense of community between preceptors and learners made WestFam my dream residency program. Looking back after almost a full year of residency, I can honestly say that I am so happy with my decision!

Top tier co-residents, exceptional preceptors, breathtaking sunsets, Marble Mountain next door, evening tee times at Blomidon, endless outdoor activities, organized sports, a vibrant arts and music scene, true winters, warm summers, and spectacular fall colours are just a few of my favorite things about the west coast! ⛷️🏌🏼‍♀️🏒🌅🍂

Fun fact: I recently solo travelled to Chile & Argentina and hiked the famous Patagonia Fitz Roy trail at sunrise!
