The YYC Hand Drumming Program for Elementary Schools in Simcoe County can offer your students a rewarding and fun musical educational experience. In operation since 2016, the YYC Hand Drumming Program has facilitated the joy of handdrumming to hundreds of students of all ages over the years.

At present (in 2025), however, YYC is willing to come to schools but is not currently insured, therefore is not on the 2025 SCDSB approved facilitator list. I still do go to some schools, but I am always honest about the fact that I am not insured. If a school wants me to do workshops knowing this, I am most willing.

Elementary schools in Simcoe County have their own drums, and the YYC program is based on using these school drums. But if required, I also have 22 drums I can provide , which opens up which schools I can go to, including high schools, and I have done alot of classes for private Montessori schools. YYC workshops usually operate for 90 minutes.

Of note, although not yet on the YYC Brochure, I also now offer age appropriate drum workshops for primary students, including Kindergarten ages. These Primary workshops are only 45 minutes in length, which is perfect for young children.

Pleased to share that I just got 7 more excellent djembes!!! So now I have 22 hand drums I can supply to classes. :) A girl can never have too many drums!

In 2024 YYC facilitated numerous hand drum workshops at Montessori schools, which were a great success! One Montessori school in Barrie was so pleased they booked me again for 5 workshops! Some of these classes were for Kindergarten and Primary age children, and I have great age-appropriate content for these ages. Primary workshops worked best in 45 minute sessions. I love sharing the joy of handdrumming with all ages! And trust that 2025 will bring more of this type of workshop.

If you have a school interested, please inquire, and we can work out a schedule and fair pricing so it works for you and your students! I will be developing a new YYC brochure in the coming season, but until its done, please just reach out.

Note: I bring drums to YYC workshops, all the school has to do is set up chairs in a circle, and we are set to go... :)

I love sharing the joy of rhythm with students in Simcoe County. Each time I go into a school it is a unique experience, but ALWAYS an amazing experience. Young people benefit so much from hand drumming, I am so glad the schools in Simcoe County have hand drums.

It never ceases to amaze me when I facilitate a drum circle how fast time flies when we drum. Hand Drumming truly is soooo much more than music, it is a vehicle of connection to ourselves, to each other, and to something beautiful that flows through all of life. Plus its FUN! :)

Great video of YYC Hand Drumming yesterday with some Grade 5/6 students. Our focus was on Global hand drumming and Cultural Diversity. We sampled some rhythms from around the world. In this video the kids are playing a "Conga Line", where they all join in one by one, until we are all doing the Conga! They sound great, and we had alot of fun. Specially wonderful for me was that I was at this same school back in May of 2019, and many of the kids remembered some of the rhythms we learned then! I love sharing the joy of rhythm and inspiring kids to hand drum. :)

Yayyy!!! Another year begins, and I look forward to sharing the JOY of HAND DRUMMING with Elementary Students all over Simcoe County. The YES YOU CAN HAND DRUMMING PROGRAM offers a variety of Programs for Grades 2-8, and can accommodate all special needs, and/or modify class content to suit Teachers requests. Give your students an inspirational, educational, inclusive and FUN experience hand drumming with one YYC session. -or - consider booking 3-4-5 ongoing YYC Hand Drum classes to really solidify drumming knowledge and rhythmic confidence for students and teacher (includes notation). YYC Hand Drumming offers students far more than a musical experience. Hand Drumming circles also enhance student connection, community, cooperation, confidence and creativity. Plus its really Fun! Everyone can hand drum, because we all have rhythm.... Lets PLAY those drums!!

Lots of hand drumming lately! Last week I facilitated 6 workshops in schools, and more this week. I absolutely love sharing the joy of drumming, and it never ceases to amaze me how fast children pick it up.
Here is a video of 25 Grade 6 school kids. They sounded great! We were doing a Team hand drumming activity I call "Hey Ho" which is really fun.

"Yes You Can" Hand Drumming Program had a great time drumming at Assikinack Public School in Barrie yesterday, here is a video of the kids playing. We were doing an interactive Rhythm, which combines drumming with clapping. Later we did team drumming combining drumming with use of voice. The kids love this one!!

More than half of these Grade 5/6 students had never drummed before. They did such a great job!
