Today was all about adventure, teamwork, courage, and trying something completely unexpected.

Our Survivors took on challenges throughout the forest, worked together, solved puzzles, tested their skills, and stepped outside their comfort zones.

And then came the Food Tasting Challenge…

Crickets and mealworms were officially on the menu!

The children asked not to know what they were trying ahead of time, which made the challenge even more exciting - Just trusting their teachers 😊 With their Survivor bandanas on, they bravely tasted each mystery food before discovering what it actually was.

There were some pretty incredible reactions, lots of laughter, and plenty of proud moments.

Survivor Day was definitely one for the Forest School memory books.

MEDIEVAL DAY - Day 2

We crammed so much adventure into Medieval Day!

Our forest was transformed into a medieval world as the children built forts, worked with tools, played games, climbed trees, and took on challenges together.

One of the biggest adventures of the day was our Dragon Egg Quest! The children followed clues and solved riddles throughout the forest as they searched for three hidden dragon eggs.

We also slowed things down and tried our hand at medieval-inspired calligraphy using India ink and crow feathers. It was such a fun way to explore writing, creativity, and a little piece of history all while listening to medieval music.

Fort building. Tools. Riddles. Dragon eggs. Calligraphy. Tree climbing.

Medieval Day was packed from beginning to end!

PIONEER DAY

We travelled back to the 1800s for the first stop of our Time Travel Week!

Our young pioneers hit the trail with maps and compasses, took on Oregon Trail-inspired challenges, learned about life on the frontier, made homemade butter in a jar, and worked together to make decisions along their journey.

There was plenty of problem-solving, teamwork, imagination, and adventure as the children discovered just how different everyday life would have been for pioneer families.

The best kind of history lesson is one you get to step right into.

Next stop: Medieval Times!

Trees to climb. Creeks to explore. Wildlife to discover. Friendships to build. Adventures that grow confidence, curiosity, and independence.

At Little Wise Owls Outdoor Learning, children ages 3–10 learn where childhood belongs — outdoors.

What do you think children are REALLY learning when they’re playing in the forest?

Is Forest School just outdoor play — or is there something much bigger happening?

BUILD A SHELTER FOR FELIX THE FOX! 🦊🌲

Today at Siblings Camp, the children were given a challenge: Felix the Fox needed a forest shelter… could they build one for him?

And they were ALL IN.

Before our shelter challenge, we explored our new wooden woodland animals through small-world play, made some noise with musical instruments, and played two group games together.

Then it was building time!

The children worked in teams to gather natural materials, share ideas, problem-solve, build, rebuild, and figure out exactly what Felix would need to stay safe and cozy in the forest.

What looked like ā€œbuilding a little fox houseā€ was actually so much more:

Teamwork
Imaginative play
Problem-solving
Engineering & construction
Communication
Creative thinking
Perseverance

And they LOVED it.

This is one of my favourite things about Forest School — taking a simple story and turning it into an experience where children are playing, imagining, collaborating and learning without it ever feeling like a lesson.
