Bill Schnare began playing music professionally in 1963 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Bill toured Canada with the group which later became the Great Scots. The Great Scots who were well known in the Canadian press as "Canada's answer to the Beatles," arrived in New York and California in 1965. Hooking up with producer Richard Delvey, the Great Scots hit the charts with "Run For Your Life," "The Light Hurts My Eyes" and "Miracle Worker." The Great Scots played everything from blues, rock & roll, to a smattering of jazz. The fame of the Great Scots in California grew by leaps and bounds, following appearances on American Bandstand, Shindig, Where the Action Is and 9th Street West. The Great Scots were featured in various teen magazines after working major live shows at the Rose Bowl and the Carousel Theatre. The Great Scots also received the key to the city of Santa Barbara, California. Despite his exciting past, Bill is best known as a music teacher. He is the author of an advanced music theory book entitled, “Secrets the Guitar Gods Don’t Want You to Know,” and the Software program, “Guitar Mentor.” Bill is just as comfortable with new music students as he is with those having a more advanced background. Over the last 50 years Bill has taught more than 1700 students to play many different instruments (piano, guitar, bass guitar, violin, mandolin and many other instruments). If your desire is to simply have fun, that’s fine. However, Bill especially enjoys those students who want to completely understand the inner workings of music, and how those principles are applied to their chosen instrument.
