Female ge***al mutilation is a harmful practice that is widely practiced in around 30 countries in parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
It involves the partial or total removal of the external female ge***alia, or other injury to the female ge***al organs for non-medical reasons.
It is an extreme form of gender discrimination and a stark violation of women and girls’ human rights.
